value of an early 90's Bianchi Giro?

Early 90's Bianchi Giro (59 cm). This was my bike as a teenager. It has covered many thousands of miles in the mountains of Colorado. It originally had all Campi components, but many of the high wear items have since been replaced with Shimano 105. The wheels are also new since the bike was new. The bike is actually in really good condition, but will simply need a tune up, as it has not seen any use in many years. It will also need new tires. Call Chad at

I currently have 3 aluminum road bikes in my stable and am yearning for a steel ride. I'm having trouble coming up with much information on the bike itself, but I'm assuming that since it was nice enough to replace the worn campy with 105 that it should be a higher end bike. Am I right? I know that condition is everything, but assuming that I will need tubes, tires, bartape, cables, a good regreasing, and there is little to no rust, what should I be looking to spend on this one?

Also, bike is my size, and my name is also Chad. Was this bike meant for me?

The information supplied is not enough to really help to determine Vintage Bicycle Value. And condition is not everything. Believe it or not the size of the bike will dramatically impact value. So will the bicycle's location, and in some areas, the time of year has a lot to do with how much someone is willing to pay for a bike.

Really good condition? What does that mean? The bike has covered so many miles that the components have worn out? Really good condition? The picture is too fuzzy to help determine condition and, a single dent in the frame set's tubing will drastically reduce the value of the bicycle. So, how much should you pay?

Not sure based on the information provided.

I agree we need more information. the pic is awful but looks like a '89/90ish, basically the same bike both years, frame from the decals. the Group should have been Athena with Synchro (a teenager on a Giro with Athena OY!)

There are to nice Super Leggeras On CL that are waiting for 1K each. I think that may be a bit high but they do look nice. get lots of pics and more info.

well, my main buying market is Atlanta, GA, but this is located over an hour outside of the city limits. Not a bad drive for me, but enough to where it isn't going to pull the premium associated with bikes being listed within the city. Typically low to mid range bikes list for $200-$300 although I'm not sure what they are actually selling for. I know the size of the bike affects value, but the bike is my size, and that's what matters most. This is not something I'd be looking to resell anytime soon.

not looking for an exact value of what I should pay, but more so what the high end and low end value of the bike would be. Waiting on pictures from the seller, but he says that the frame is straight with no rust and no major issues with paint.

I'm guessing synchro is campy's indexing system? (excuse my ignorance) if I were to want to replace the shimano stuff with the athena that belongs on it, will it cost me an arm and a leg?

How do they compare to a super leggera?
the asking price for this bike is significantly less

Yes it was. replacing the Campi bits cam be rather pricey especially to find nice looking ones.

This Giro was the model just below the Super Leggera and shared the same frame, the only difference being the Athena group on the Giro V Chorus on the Super Leggera.

the finish on this bike was rather unique, it was a matte black with a satin type clearcoat and celeste decals. value as randy pointed out is all about condition. if this finish looks nasty it would detract from the value.

I would say this bike likely needs a complete overhaul -75 (if you can do the work otherwise -100) off the asking price. the seller says it needs tires but maybe you can still talking him down $20 or so more

He's only asking $100 for it. You are better off just driving after it now, before someone else scoops it. Surely it is worth $100. It should not last very long.

In most markets, $100 road bikes that are LBS branded are rare, and don't last long. Don't be surprised if someone picks this one up, and you see it in a few weeks on the Atlanta C/L for $275.

In my experience scooping up quite a few bikes, sellers deal with the easiest buyers first. Ask a lot of questions and for additional details, and you go to the bottom of the list. Don't be surprised if someone scoops it on you. Move now would be my suggestion.

Note, any opinion on this bike is subject to in person inspection, as the picture is pitiful (but maybe that's why it is still available). If he has the old parts he replaced, asked for them. Good luck!

bike was in much better shape than expected! ready to ride condition even

Shift levers and rear derailleur have been switched out for shimano 105 and look almost brand new. Wheelset was replaced with a set of Mavic Open CD4 laced with double butted spokes to shimano 600 hubs, and the seatpost was switched out to some generic alloy seatpost because the campy one was too short for the owner. Other than that, the Campy athena remains and is in great shape!

There are a few rubs on the frame, but there is absolutely no rust or even any bare metal. Pics soon when I get back from riding it!

If you don't want it and looks OK I do. would you be willing to facilitate? you just need to take it to a shop to have it packed and shipped.
