Early 80s Peugeot w/Super Vitus 980 tubing
This bike has been at the local resale shop for almost a year. I really want it but the asking price of $500 has me staying away. I think the guy thinks it's an early 70s PX-10 or something. Obviously it needs a complete overhaul but I could take care of that. The saddle and stem are way wrong but that doesn't bother me too much either. Just wondering what you all think of it.

- Super Vitus 980 frame/fork
- Simplex rear dropouts
- Stronglight crankset
- Shimano 600 brakes, levers, and rear derailer
- Peugeot braze-on front derailer
- SR (?) hubs laced to nice Wolber 27" rims

80's PSV10-upper level-but price is too much/as it needs a complete overhaul-and has missing orig parts. Yea, that stem is funky! As is I vote for 175 MAX: and thats 'I gotta have it number. Woluld have had sew-ups. The crank is is original. People think a lot of bikes are worth more than they are. This one, tho nice-isn't that rare-certainly not complete.

I wouldn't go much over $200 its a nice bike but nothing really special. Almost no 70's or 80's Puegeots or worth this guys $500 asking price in this condition. I can see a half dozen or so things wrong with this bike from the pics.

Not worth 500. Local sales, maybe 250 or 300 tops. Nice bike, I'd top out at about 200 if it were my size.
+1 everybody thinks the pug they have is something special. This one is pretty nice, but in the Wisconsin market not worth 500.

Thanks everyone. If it was a great deal it'd be with me right now, just needed some confirmation that it's out of the ballpark. Maybe let it sit another year or two and see if the guy comes to his senses.

PSV10 '83, a very nice PUG and IMHO $500 is a reasonable price. They came with SL 104 cranks and Simplex 610 RD's (this one has a replacement RD). Bike looks to be in good shape. The Super Vitus frame/fork is excellent, and I've ridden (but not owned) this bike. It's a great ride. Getting one in good shape that fits for $300 would be a steal.

If Peugeot decided to equip the PSV's with higher level components like at least a full Spidel group, which I think the SV980 frame deserves, it would be worth more than 200-300 bucks that everyone had been suggesting ($300ish had been typical for PSV's in very good to close to mint condition lately). Kinda sad that they put an RD/FD that was pretty much the same as what came on their much "humbler" models like the PH10S. Same goes for the low budget saddles they put on them and the Weinmann 500 or 605 brakes. So that certainly pulls down the bike's value. Frankly, the only thing that caught my eye on the PSV component-wise was the beautiful Stronglight 104bis crankset with the "drillium" rings.
It's sad that Peugeot did not support the last French steel frame they had in their model line a little better.
That's why many PSV owners these days usually decide to upgrade the components on their bikes. The frame's worth doing so.

I think it was some sort of folding bike, but to be honest I did not pay much attention to it. I can go back and check if you want.

In Portland OR, I'd pay $250 for that bicycle if I had a special hankering for a PSV and it fit me perfectly. Because the paint and decals look very nice, and you can't get that "Brase A Main" decal in a repro set (I've looked). Many of the components are non-original (brakes, RD, maybe wheels, etc) and not really inspired (the stem is awful), have to figure you'll be replacing a lot of them. You're basically buying a very nice frame, a cool crank/BB, and a decent seatpost that fits the frame.
