Peugeot Mixte

Just picked up a nice Peugeot Mixte. Wonder what its worth as is and once it is refurbished.

Overall in good condition but not all original. Great vibrant orange color and paint and decals are is 8/10.

Simplex components with Mafac Racer brakes.

Nice looking mixte. UO8 or similar I believe. Lower-end but the attractiveness makes up for it. As-is, from $50-100. Fully refurbished maybe as high as $150 in a good market with a good ad.

+1 You may be a able to get a little more being your in a college town and Mixte's are starting to become trendy for younger female riders.

I would part out the pump, but leave the brakes on it.

I picked up a yellow one myself two weeks ago (but without the pump).




I always remove racks, not much value, so either way is fine. I think the bike looks "cleaner" without the rack, but the rack adds functionality. I am always learning.

The bike, depending on area and your marketing skills should fetch between a $100 and $250, cleaned up and road worthy. The pump is a sell separately item and probably worth $50 - $100 all by itself, depending on the make. Also, the color is going to be a plus for the bicycle, once again adding a bit of value.

Were I the one selling the bike, I would clean and tune it up, ensuring that it is road worthy and safe to ride, then offer it for sale as a complete bicycle, less the pump, of course. But that is just me.

+1 on the pump and brakes. Take the pump off and leave the brakes alone it will cost more to change the brakes than you could sell them for. Plus proberly set up with good pads Mafacs are great brakes that work equal to almost any rim brake made old or new. Buyers exspecially on bikes in the $100-300 range realy like good brakes good brakes are a sale or no sale issue for most buyers in this price range. As for the rack since its not a realy nice one of particlular leave it on unless you have use need for it then take it off it won't effect value much but may make it easier quicker sale to some buyers.

Leave the brakes, they are part of the bike. It would be more of a pain to substitute different brakes than it would be worth.

The rack and pump do not add much if any value to the bike. Keep or sell separately.

I've restored six Peugeots, including three of these mixtes, of this same vintage. Yours is in much better shape than any I started with. And it's mostly original, with (my preferred) upright bars and stem, rather than the drops with their much funkier stem. Very unique color too. Really great find. I believe yours is a '75 or so. My Peugeot guru tells me one of mine is a '75 and mine has the same head badge rather than decal.

Back when I was active in the market, 2-3 years ago, I saw well restored examples of this mixte going for as much as $300 out here in San Francisco. I put 30+ hours into one of mine and was planning on asking $300. I absolutely would not take off the brakes. They are original parts and belong on the bike. I can't imagine what you would substitute.

I would think you could pump up the tires, give that thing a bath, and ask $150 minimum in Ft. Collings. I paid $100 for each of my mixtes and they needed complete overhauls. Btw, visited your town in '72. Hope to get back some day. And even though it's not of the same era as the bike, I'd leave the rack unless you need it for another bike. That's a nice touch. I've added a similar one to all my Peugeots.

Personally, I'd keep the bike for a current or future wife or girlfriend. Or for yourself. I've kept and ride two myself. They are among my favorite bikes.

thanks for all the info and advice... its a sharp looking mixte. I would keep it and build it for my wife but she likes her modern trek hybrid and does not see the need in having more than one bike.

interesting parallels going on here. my Peugeot guru had a Peugeot mixte for his wife that got totaled. For some inexplicable reason he got her a Trek hybrid also. Probably a mistake on his part, because she also couldn't see the need for more than one bike. But he certainly could. At any rate, he found another Peugeot mixte he had to have. Fortunately he had a daughter. Then he found another Peugeot mixte. Fortunately his daughter went to college, so he figured one for school, one for when she's home. See how this goes? We both (my guru and I) are creative (I use my son, who now has two bikes at college and four at home). We both have a dozen bikes. You could exercise your creativity too.

Here it is refurbished and ready to ride... came out nice... found a white vetta saddle the other day which matches the white cable housing.

That's is one sweet looking bike I have two blue and white grocery getters one at work one at home, can't beat the ride. That orange one is a keeper in my books.
