Centurion Ironman Master Dura-Ace, $300?

Found a centurion iron man master on craigslist. Has Dura Ace (brakes, shifters, rear derailleur, crank) and shimano 600 series (hubs, headset, brake levers)

1989 I believe as its the smoked purple frame.

Worth $300? I was trying to get him down to 200 but he seems firm at 300 for the moment.

Looked the bike up I dont know if it came with dura ace stock?

Others here will probably have a better idea than I. I think that $300 is pretty standard for a nice condition Master in major cities. I don't know what it came with stock but i know i've seen many sell for $300 without Dura Ace.

It has a reputation of having a pretty excellent ride, the paint job is wicked awesome as is that era of Dura Ace.

If you really want it... Drive out, spend a lot of time inspecting it, ride it and then make your offer. If he still says no, you can tell him that he has your phone number and to call you if changes his mind.

If he hasn't stopped you by the time you get to your car and you REALLY want it. Go pay the $300 and take home a nice ride

In CA? I would not waste time trying to talk him into a 33% discount. If he is a savvy seller, he should be able to get his price (assumes condition is excellent).

Well, with comments below about paint, my interest would be lower. But it probably will still sell. What is the condition of the components? If everything is well worn/beat, then $200, maybe even less, is right.

Is it the one in Davis? I would pass at $300.

Yeah, that one looks a bit roughed up.

I'd probably offer $220 and see if he gets back to you.

When the seller states, "The paint job had seen better days, but no dings or cracks." I would expect the worse and personally look for a frame in better shape. The bar tape looks well wrapped though.

Despite the paint it still looks pretty nice and in Sacramento I would definitely expect it to sell at $300.

Purple Haze = 1988 Master, which came OEM with 600 tricolor, 2x7 indexed.
Rims were Araya CTL-370 Super Hard Anodized. Nitto stem, Nitto B115 bars.

The paint quality was outstanding, so if it's been roughed up, it took some doing.

Notes:

The purple itself is easy to match because it varies so much, doesn't really matter.

De-rust and nuetralize the gouges/scratches, etc.

Just pick a nail polish color and use it, then rub it out, use a clear coat pen, rub that out, and wax.

The white is not white, it's a pearlcoat. You can still use white to touch up the stays where it's not so noticeable.
The Nissan Maxima pearl white from the early 90's is a better match. Same process should be used.

$200 is more like it if you have to do significant paint work. The ride and components will carry you like a much more expensive bike, even if the appearance isn't so hot. Then when you toss in the venue, it's going to sell for $275-$300, in my opinion. Knee-deep into a friendly criterium, or 50 miles into a century, it's still an Ironman, and a good value.
