Hi everyone

I was hoping someone could give me their 2 cents on the following listing:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/bik/3002744799.html

Frame: Bianchi sport sx
Wheels: DT Swiss TK 7.1 l laced to suzue hubs
Headset : Chris King Gripnut
stem: nitto
Seatpost: Thomson elite
R. derailleur: Shimano Deore XT ( 7 speed)
F. derailleur: Shimano Deore XT

Is that price reasonable?

Thanks,

Welcome to the Bike Forums.

To me, $400 for a Sport SX seems to be a bit high. $250.00 might be more interesting, however; there are so many things that impact a vintage bicycle's value. Where the bike is located, condition, size and numerous other things will raise or lower the final value of a bicycle. Even how the bicycle is presented will add or remove value.

With that in mind, you might want to learn a bit about what makes a good bicycle good, and then apply that information to your search for a good bike at a decent price. Or, you could just use one or more of these Bicycle Hunting Procedures to find what you seek for very little cash outlay, or even none at all.

Good luck with your search and let's see some pictures of what you choose to buy, or accept for nothing from a friend or family member.

Some very nice parts on a basic mid/low level frame (Thomson post, King headset). Seller no doubt has a bit invested in it. I think 400 might work in NYC; that is a different, more expensive, and hotter market than either Thunder Bay or Richmond (where I am). I'd offer less, but the bike consignetti in NYC might be seduced by the parts.

The frame and maybe the brakes are '86. It is a pretty decent frame with 3 main ChroMo in SuperSet w/ Mangalloy stays. I have the '87 version and it a great rider.

There seems to be alot od nice stuff on this bike but how does it look up close? Is the stuff really nice or just stuck ona frame to sell it? It has suntour barend shifters so there is no indexing. I agree $400 may be a tad high but if the parts are in good shape maybe $250 to 300

Bianchi + NYC + Some nice components= $400.
NYC and bikes is another world. The price is high, but given your location, and if it's nice, all working correctly like bianchigirl said, and if it's your size (extremely important) then go for it. It appears that the seller is being straight up.
It would not hurt to try and negotiate a little, like offering $325-$350 and see where it goes.

Excellent, thank you all for your replies I really appreciate it. I'm looking for my first bike in the city and I'm very new to all this (didn't even realize the shifters were bar end), so thanks again. I'm going to take a look in person and take it from there.

Elliot
