Is a 1974 Schwinn Le Tour really worth $950?
Ebay - Yes- I frorgot to mention the $150 shipping.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1974...item19d0df3660

This is a one owner 1974 Schwinn Le Tour 10 speed bicycle. I'm pretty sure all of the parts are original. The bike frame is in very good condition. There are some scratches on the original paint. The only ding on the bike is in picture # 12 - the last scratch on the bottom - it's very small but I have to mention it. The original rims, spokes, and original gear handles are all in very good condition. The gears shift very well. The brakes work excellent. The original tires hold air, but you will need new ones - they are dried out. Picture # 11 shows the condition of the seat. The stand-over height is 34-7/8" from the floor to the top horizontal bar.
A new seat and tires are all this bike needs. With a little tune-up and some minor restoration, this classic Schwinn will be a beauty!!
Please don't hesitate to ask questions. Thanks a lot for looking & good luck bidding. Depending on your location, the shipping will be approximately $150. I will also do a free pick-up if you're close enough to Rockford Illinois; however, the transaction will have to be completed with Ebay & Paypal. No COD!!!
Make an offer!! All reasonable offers will be considered!!! Thanks again!!!

I don't think so, atleast not in this shape. The tires look dry rotted, the bar tape looks original and in real need of replacement, likely needs a good tune up and that fork looks....

Well maybe if it had $900 or so in cash stuffed in the seat post. I see this listed a lot in Denver for $150-200 and not selling.

NO!!!!!!!
Good grief. Another deceived Schwinn seller-wannabe thinking he can pay for a mid-winter Carribbean cruise with a sale of a LeTour/varsity/collegiate.
They weigh a ton. My girlfriend had this same year of Le Tour and I rode a much lighter Motobecane. I teased her endlessly.

I hope it is worth that much. I have an '85 Le Tour Luxe in much better condition. If that POC is worth $950, mine must be worth at least $1,500.

With the bent ('custom') fork and the size, I'd say fifty dollars would be about right. I might go up to ten personally.

I'll admit. I have '79 Super Le Tour 12.2 that I love to ride. I paid $100 + shipping and put another $50 in it. I thought I paid too much. I just liked the bike.

Not even worth the cost of shipping. $30-40 would be about right, especially in such rough shape with a bent fork.

I didn'y even spot the bent fork and out of true frame on my first estimate I revise my price to $30. This bike is overpriced scrap metal.

1974 was the year Schwinn "officially" introduced the Le Tour, so that makes it a little special. They were well made by Panasonic in Japan. However, they do have stem shifters, "turkey" levers, center pull brakes and steel rims. As aluded to, that one has a fork that is pushed back a bit. The gumwalls are dried toast. It also has a 25" frame that eliminates the majority of potential riders, and not everybody is rushing to buy old bikes right now. Therefore, $25 to $40 would seem to be a more reasonable price. For $950 you can buy a new Le Tour Legacy with some nice accessories to go along with it.
Prognosis: deluded seller will have that bike sitting on the other side of that white garage door until he moves, dies or loses the bike in a divorce settlement.

There seems to be a lot of this on CL right now. I think it
has to do with general ignorance of bikes, values, and the
warmer weather...........I hope it passes as the summer
winds down and the rains pick up.....

Update: Now $199 + $150 shipping.
It is still in my watch list - I want to see if anyone bites.
I agree with the fork comment!!!
Personally, I wouldn't pay the shipping - and I love Le Tours.

I wonder if this is the same person listing the Nishiki Altron for $1400. Some folks are just delusional. On the other hand, I have a 1984 Schwinn Traveler in excellent condition........

I think some of this is the storage wars phenomenon. People gain a bike through an estate, a storage locker purchase, etc. You either get a great deal or absurdity. I purchased a Tempo from an estate flipper who worked with a bike expert to fairly evaluate and price bikes. Wonderful experience.
