Is this Mavic wheelset a fair price?

Please see the link: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv...011972459.html

I'm not advocating on selling it here. I would just like to know if 60 dollars for it is a reasonable price or a steal. Non-matching hubs, lightly used. One person is interested and is going to check them out tomorrow (for either 50 or 60, I was clear that the asking price was 60, but he did not acknowledge it), and another called me this morning saying his friend is going to give me a call. The reason I ask is because I usually have a difficult time selling things on CL...

Thanks for the help in advance.

I think that is a good deal for the buyer (if they are true and smooth), but not terrible for the seller. I certainly wouldn't accept less than $60 for them, especially if you're getting multiple people interested.

Unfortunately, selling parts on C/L you really can't get full value. $60 is about right for a C/L wheelset, you might be able to get more.

+1. I have bought wheels on CL at very attractive prices and sold some for cheap that were taken off various bikes. Some guys buy an expensive bike and immediately upgrade the wheels. They sell unridden wheels for next to nothing sometimes. Those are good to find.

Where & about how much is "full value"? They spin true, minor cosmetic blemishes, and have plenty of life left.

$40 to $50 is more realistic. Not really a pair and they're getting up there in age (20+ years old). Neither of the hubs are anything to write home about. Can you verify the claim of light use? Since you're starting at $60, expect any buyer to offer less than $50, unless they are unskilled at negotiations. If you get $60, you did alright.

I paid $20 for my last pair of (lightly) used wheels off craigslist. Not as nice as yours but fully functional; just saying.

Ebay or on this forum are your two choices on components. C/L components = well under market. Great as a buyer, lousy as a seller. Of course, ebay is full of fees, must be willing to ship, must have stellar feedback, and is the land of variance.

I buy wheels locally all the time. Last ones I bought off C/L were $10 a set a week ago. Good deal for sure, but they were up for a while, so its not like I scooped them.

This is the main reason I have never bought a new wheel, despite rehabbing hundreds of bikes, and despite replacing about 100 wheels or more. Good used wheels are quite plentiful, at attractive (low) prices.

Agree that the world is full of $10 wheelsets. This goes 10X if they are over 15 years old.

The last 2 wheels sets I bought were bullseye hubs laced to Campagnolo Hardrox aeros and Shimano 600 hubs laced to Matrix rims. Both sets were in great shape "lightly used" and cost $10. Didn't need to haggle on either. Heck, the Shimano hub included a 6-speed freewheel which I flipped for $30.

$60 for name brand components with a wheelsmith sticker? Duh. Even if it wasn't a good deal, it's still only $60. I'd spin them and make sure they're not crazy pitted, they're reasonably true and there aren't dents in the rim itself and happily hand over the cash.

These are the kind of ads you jump on and then figure out later, it'll probably be gone by the time you respond to the ad.

For the record, posting this as someone who would ride them and not flip them.
