Sekai Magnum S7 Touring Bike
I just bought a Sekai Magnum S7 Touring bike of of CraigsList and I can't find anything out about it here on the internet. I posted this over in the Sekai Master List thread but I though someone over in C&V might be able to help me out, too.
Here's what I got:
So can anyone tell me something about this bike? Its year? Where this model sits in the quality line-up?
Thanks for your help!
Jake
Here's what I got:
Sekai Magnum S7
Norco era
Tange #2 Cro-Moly frame
Chocolate brown paint with a cream head tube
Top mounted SunTour "Symmetric" downtube shifters (with a protruding square boss underneath it)
Two sets of bottle cage bosses on the top and bottom of the downtube
Nitto stem and Nitto Grand Randonneur drop bars
Sella Italia saddle (Leather? Suede?)
Dia Comp canti breaks
SunTour Cyclone M-II drive
Sugino triple crank (not sure what model)
Araya 700C wheels (presta valves, 40 spokes)
Non-stock pedals and brake levers
Serial number Y4A2789
And here are a few photos from the CL seller. (I haven't had a chance to wipe it down and start taking my own pictures yet.)Norco era

Based on what I see, the bicycle is likely second from top of the line, the top of the line offering being more race oriented.
You can have a close look at the component numbers which will help you figure out How Old The Bike Is, and you might have a bit of fun doing it.

Thanks, randyjawa. I'll check the components this evening. I just picked this bike up yesterday evening so I haven't given it a thorough going-over yet.
Also, according to the Sekai Database thread, the Norco era at Sekai went from 1984 to 1990. That's a nice six year window. But I'd love to narrow that down some more.

Does anyone know if, somewhere in the world or on these internets, there exists a library of the Sekai catalogs and brochures? Were Sekais so under-marketed or undervalued that no one really cared to save anything?
