2000 Lemond Zurich - 99.5% mint condition....Sell or Ride.....

In mid 2001 I bought a 2000 Lemond Zurich, I believe a 53cm (haven't confirmed, it's not marked anywhere I can find).

Put a Cateye wired computer, some Speedplay X/2's, and rode it 'maybe' 150-200 miles, and then....pretty much hung it up in the garage, as a month or so after getting it our first little one was announced being on the way...... And then another one born 14 months after the first (gotta be the TX water ). Between life in general and being a self employed stay at home dad that works weekends, it's pretty much stayed on the hanger.

So....FF to 6 months ago. Bought a couple tandems off of CL, started some family riding, losing some weight, getting back into distance riding...and just recently thought I'll pull it down.

Did a very thorough cleaning and detail and lube on the Lemond. Looks/works spectacular. It's 99.5% showroom condition, save for two small rock chips on the top tube, and a few scuffs on the front hoods (from leaning against stuff I guess, really don't know). No rock chips on the chain stays, front fork, down tube, or anywhere else. 100% bone stock, original tires/tubes/seat/bar wrap/etc..

My dilemma..... most of my riding is now either on family outings (big organized rides like the Collin Classic or the MS150 and such around Texas) on the tandems or exercise in suburbia (also on the tandems when the family comes along) or alone on a hybrid Gary Fisher I picked up on CL. I've also bought a BOB Ibex trailer off of CL for some touring/camping with either the tandems or the Gary Fisher. Been thinking in the back of my mind I'd like a touring bike though if I want to go alone....

If I'm going to keep/ride the Zurich....to start with I'm going to throw some 25c or 28c (if they'll fit) comfy tires on it as I weigh a little more now...also probably a set of track 'platform' pedals (more below)...and a black B17. Just to enjoy/be comfortable on it (it does fit very well, probably one of the best I've ever had). It was a joy to ride....

The considerations of 'why to sell it':

-I have always gotten hot spots on my feet (even toe numbness on my right foot), both with the SPD shoes/pedals on every other bike I've had, and still had the problem the little I road the Lemond with the Speedplay/Sidi setup (after trying the SPD setup I had used before). I'm tired of throwing $$$ at that problem for clipless shoes/pedals.....and the Zurich just begs for clip less pedals....I haven't ever had any of the hot spot problem with the two tandems we have, nor the Gary Fisher (even on the long rides), nor any other bike I've just had platform pedals on. The tandems and the GF are currently setup with Wellgo platform pedals, and I just wear regular tennis shoes or some comfy Keen sandals (also what I'd wear with touring I think). I have wide feet, which makes the problem harder (at least so I've found). Weird that I don't have the numbness/hot spots in soft 'street' shoes, but do in every clip less shoe I've tried (4 in all over the years).

-Thinking of a touring style bike for the trailer----or----maybe a nice drop bar tandem for the big distance family rides and/or family touring.

-Don't really have the 'need for speed' (and all the stuff that goes along with that) as much as I used to 11 years ago.

The only reasons to keep it:

-it DOES have a threaded rack/fender mount near (above) the dropouts (or what else is this for). Maybe...use...for lite touring/pulling the trailer? I realize it's not designed specifically for this, but it does have the mounts (I'm not seeing things ). Also realize there's probably not enough room for bigger tires and fenders.

-wife is actually thinking I should keep it for 'someday' fast style riding......cause it's so nice and we already have it (she's awesome).

-it is very comfortable/great looking/fast all by itself

So...the proverbial question....sell it or ride it? It's really a tough decision. One minute I think to keep it....another minute to sell it for the $$$ for the next bike.

And...if selling....what might be a fair price? Can add pics if that helps.....

Thanks for reading this far and hopefully providing some feedback.....

This one?

https://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/B...rich&Type=bike

6500 ultegra but a quill stem, and not old enough to have its age add value. 853 tubing and a threaded carbon fork are nice touches. MSRP was $2k, but even in showroom condition I'd bet you'd have to be patient to pull away with $750. If it were me, and $750 wasn't going to change my life, I'd keep it. It's worth more than $750 to me to have a bike like this in the quiver, and anything you'd replace it with wouldn't be as good.

It sucks that paired spoke wheels and quill stems are passé and signs of an older bike, even to newbies, but that's where we are.

It's that exact bike, save for my seat is red, and the handlebar tape is red.

So.....if I keep it.....do I ride it (and risk some 'wear'), or just keep it hanging? If I'm going to ride it...it's at least getting bigger tires, a Brooks B17 saddle (probably), and some platform pedals like the Wellgo MG-1 (in red of course).

Thanks for reading and helping. Always great to bounce ideas around with some feedback.

Risk wear? Pfft. That thing won't even start appreciating (if at all) for another 15 years. And then it'll be a $1000 bike. That's like being paid $15/year to mothball it. It'll never be all that amazingly collectible- they sold a lot of these, and it's from the era after Lemond was sold to trek.

Just ride it and love it.

I'd be surprised if you could get anything wider than a 25mm tire to clear the fork.
