Price Check: 1985 Maruishi Record

I'm seriously considering picking up this fine looking Japanese road bike and wanted to get some additional opinions as to its value. Asking price is $400 and the bike is ready to ride and in excellent condition.

See the link here with specks here:

Thanks in advance!

$400 buys a lot of bike in the vintage market, and will buy one better than this one (at full market pricing).

Higher end Japanese built racing bikes from this era typically bring $250 to $275, fully refurbished and looking pristine (range based on selling a few hundred of them over the last few years). There are some that will bring $400. They typically have Superbe Pro or similar components.

Well marketed for sure, but over priced for what it is. Note that the seat pictured is not included (I hate when sellers do this).

More of a $250-ish bike, especially in your market. You should get a lot more bike for $400.

EDIT: Tbill - jinx!

Yeah, but that photo is just so good and I haven't had a chance to get a better photo with the original saddle. But, that ad is old and I don't have photos with the Belt leather saddle up any more.

Anyways, I would just keep it for $250. It's a shame though because I won't ever ride it.

And thanks for posting up OP. I've been wondering when one of my bikes might pop up here.

FWIW, I have put about $150 worth of new parts and have done a full overhaul on the bike, so $250 would be on the low side...even in this particular market(which is pretty decent actually, tubes). The only one I have seen sell was on ebay for around $250(plus s+h) and that hadn't been touched since '85.

And, you can always get a better bike for a given price...that kind of goes without saying(or maybe not).
