Do you know if all 1984 Centurion Elite RS's were manufactured with a Tange #2 fork? We have a dark brown 1984 Centurion Elite RS and would like to know how to figure out which Tange fork it has on it. Thank you for any help that you can offer about the Centurion Elite RS, what color was your 1984 Elite RS?

Thanks again

i have no idea, maybe RobbieTunes will chime in with some information. I ended up getting a 1988 Lemans, and I know mine has a Tange #2 frame, but not sure if the chain stays and seat stays are mangaloy or tange 2. my fork is cro-mo steel.

Therein lies the problem with frame labeling, they don't usually list the fork or the stays material, but the original factory specs in the catalog usually listed the fork but not the stays. In the specs all it says is Tange Hi-Tension steel forks, better Centurions used Tange CroMoly, I would suspect that yours does not use Tange 2 since that was considered CroMoly not Hi-tension.

BUT, in some instances if they ran out of supply of a certain fork or wheelset etc they may substitute a higher quality whatever and it would never be reviewed in the specs. I know my 85 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe has 40 spoke rims all around with double butted spokes, but the specs say 40 spokes in the rear and 36 in the front both using straight gauge spokes; so Schwinn or Panasonic, in the process of making my particular bike probably ran out of 36 hole rims and straight gauge spokes so some got the wheels that I have while most got the catalog spec'd wheels.

The only way to tell about your fork is to compare close up images. The Tange Cromoly fork use no external lug on the crown of the fork and it has a slight slope to the crown from the headset to the blades, while the Hi-Tension fork uses an external lug for the crown and the crown appears flatter.

Also if you read the specs only the 3 main tubes are cromoly tange 2, the seat and chain stays as well as the head tube are hi-tension steel not tange 2.

This information should NOT make you think you have a low quality bike, au contraire! It's the third bike from the top of line out of 9 models made that year which puts the bike in the mid-high level range.

I got one of these today.
+ a 700c wheel set thrown in.
Cool.

A simple Google Image search would tell you that the Lemans RS was available in many sizes.

I see it, but all of them seem to have the proportions of this. The seat post looks like its towering over the rear wheel on all.
Anyway - I see it in all sizes.
Thanks.
Srinath.
