Zefal Hp Value

Are certain pumps collectible? I got a mild griefing for having a circa 1975 Zefal Hp mounted on my Centurion. "People pay hundreds for those!!" was the comment I got.
Are these in fact collectible? All I know is that it's a good pump that has always worked.

I don't think they are worth "hundreds" as someone might have told you. You have to realize that they literally made thousands of those pumps and you should not have any trouble finding them if you want one. Only way I think it could have more value is if its much older or was possibly custom painted or/and decal graphics installed to match a particular brand and model bike that is significant enough.

AFAIK Zefal made hundreds of thousands, and didn't change the design for many years. Hard to comprehend high prices for that. Try an ebay search of competed auctions, that'll tell you pretty quickly whether anybody is paying big money for them.

I would think the only collectible pumps would be period-correct French pumps needed to finish your Singer/Herse randonneur build, or Italian ones from the '30s-'50s to finish off your WWII-era BianCinellagno.

One never knows, though, I can remember at some point seeing folks pay $220+ for early-'80s original Blackburn racks, even though they were made in large numbers for many years. Maybe if your Zefal Hp were still NIP, unused in original packaging?

I'm still using one of the HP and a few of the HPx models on my bikes. When the mechanism to switch between 'x' and 'HP' failed on one of them I checked at the next swap meet for a replacement. Got one that was in perfect condition but too short for my bikes for $3, another that had a dent in the tube for $2, and one that was missing some of the valve connection parts for $5. Combined the last two to get a good working pump to put on my bike and am using the first one when I want to patch a few tubes at my desk. There were also a few HP models available at similar prices but I wasn't really interested in those.

Certainly no sign that they are inordinately valuable in this area.

you'd be shocked what some people are apparently will to pay. i was recently trying to source a washer/cup for my shot zefal solibloc. on ebay i've seen nos soliblocs going for between $160 & $200. if your pump is as beat up as mine, you probably don't have to worry about it being stolen, though. i've also seen what can only be north korean imitations (zefal??solibloc 242's ??) going for about $15 new, also on ebay.

Yes, I've seen some of the older Soliblocs sell for lots of money, but the HP, No way.....

Late last year I bought a Zefal HP (not HPX) that you could not tell had been used off of eBay for $16 plus $5 shipping. There are more on eBay now for less than $40.
