Sturmey-Archer 3 speed hub, used... how much?
I'm drooling over internal gear hubs right now. A new one is out of the question, but I was thinking of picking up a used sturmey archer three-speed off ebay, ideally one that would not have the coaster brake. How much should I expect to pay for one in reasonable condition?

I have done this a few years back. Here are my lessons learned.
I bought an AW hub a few years back for 20 shipped. Only thing about used is a lot of the hubs had 40 spoke holes and had thin spoke flanges. You should use spoke washers when you build your wheel. Also, most came with the shorter axle that is spaced for 110 dropouts. There is a longer axle available but you have to open the hub up to swap it out. Then of course, most used hubs don't come with the shifter, cable or any of the stops. So after all the additional parts necessary, I probably spent more than I would have if I had just bought a new one.
Best way to get most of the parts you need for cheep is to find a ladies 3 speed locally.
If you are interested and would rather deal here than on eBay, send me a private message and I may have some options for you.
