53cm Univega Supra Sport 90's to mid 90's

Hi all,

I was looking to find a nice roadster bike for commuting and errands around town. This one looks nice, but the price tag seems a little high according to the following bike forum post on other Univega Supara Sport. Do you think this is really worth that price or more in the $150-75 range? What should I look for for the asking price of $299 or is this just way too high?

http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/in.../t-719234.html

This is the offer $299
12 Speed Supra Sport
Fit's someone around 5'3" to 5'8", Triple butted lugged special tubing, Suntour and Suguno VP components.
700c quick release alloy wheels, luggage rack, pully brakes for comfortable riding.

Any comments are welcome - first time CL bike buyer.

Thanks,
-Cat

Hello Bouncethecat, Welcome to the forums.

I am not sure I would stick a 5'8" rider on that bike more like 5'6". It seems pricey to me but you are in SanFran and bike run a bit higher there. If you can hope on it and ride off into the sunset it is probably a good price. Don't rely on the "pully brakes" AKA Safety Levers to stop you though, they are better for modulating your speed.

There are a few SanFran area members they should see this soon lets see what they say.

OH this is closer to Mid or earlier '80s Univega.

light weight: 53cm Univega road bike made in Japan - $299 (mission district)

Answer is the same as last time. Nothing has changed in the last year as far as 1980s Japanese bike values.

+1, priced high, even for that hot market. As previously suggested, it's mid-1980s. The tire valves appear to be Schraeder, so unless the owner has drilled out the rims, they're probably 27" as opposed to 700C.

300 bucks souds too much for what seems to be a lower model Univega The ad pic doesn't help too with the slammed seat, rack and the turkey levers. Just won't push any plus buttons with most C&Vers..........
If the bike is in immaculate condition and all original, I'd only pay about $200 max for it,......and that's if it's not a 1020/2040 Hi ten steel tube frame......$100 max if it is.....
