Was this mystery stuff worth $100?

I saw an add on CL for some wheels and tires I needed, plus "lots of bike parts." They wanted 100 for the bunch and wanted it all to go at once - apparently their son left it behind when he moved out a decade ago. So, up for a gamble, I took it. Can anyone help me figure out if any of this stuff is worth anything?

Here's the first frame & fork: there's no label saying what model it is, just one that says "21-speed."http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=276343

There's also this Trek Antelope:

And a mystery frame. This one had a really lousy rattle-can paint job, which I scrubbed off to reveal.... another rattle-can paint job :P Looks like the original color was deep blue. Lightweight welded steel frame. It's set up to have brakes underneath the chainstays. I'm really curious to figure out what this one is.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=276350

I see quite a bit of co-op donation material.

On the plus side, thumb shifters are good, as is lone barcon. Unfortunately, one set of thumb shifters are missing the other half of the clamp and the clamp bolts. Old Suntour RD off a Criss Cross is OK, but the mount makes it almost useless on any other bike.

Stems are all missing parts. Old cassettes and freewheels are usually questionable at best.

$100? Not here.

Ah well, at least I got the wheels I needed, so it wasn't a total loss.

Rootman 10-03-12 01:34 PM

Why not take what you need and put the rest back on CL? Recoup most of your expense AND keep the wheels etc. you need.

If you have a pile of parts, rebuild that Trek and get your money back just for it. I will sometimes save a decent MTB frame (respected brand), and then convert a not so respected brand donor into a Trek. As long as the parts are comparable quality, it can be a reasonable project.

yes the shifters hubs and biopace chainrings are worth that...

I'd pass. This is the fodder for either a coop donation or an art project, there are just too many difficult to source nuts and bolts missing.

E: Oh, didn't realize you'd already bought it. There is some value there, but you need a little bit of luck and a lot of patience to get all that complete again.

Hey, I'll buy the odd Suntour Derailleur and any bits associated with it (Particularly any frame/chainstay mount).

FastJake 10-03-12 10:55 PM

If you put all the stuff on ebay individually....maybe. But I don't see $100 there. Too many critical nuts/bolts/bits are missing on almost all the parts.

21 speed MTB is obviously a BSO, no real value there. But that bare white frame is interesting. Too bad it's missing the fork.

Elcraft, you've got dibs on the funky suntour derailleur. I need to go through the bags of loose bits to see if there's a mount included. Do you have any pictures of what it'd look like?

I think we know where the BOC ended up!!

kc0yef 10-08-12 10:12 AM

Had this been offered in the for sale thread I would have offered

elcraft 10-15-12 08:23 AM

Original specs indicate a brazed on "tab" with a threaded hole about midway down underside of the chainstay. Any clamped-on mounting that looks like it might fit that role would be worth a try. Let's pm for the particulars.
