Raleigh Prestige Gran Sport

I came across this bike, and wanted to get the communities thoughts on this.

Its a Raleigh Prestige Gran Sport. I'm not sure of the year, the seller thinks around the 80's.

Seller offered to me for $300 plus shipping. I wanted to get some thoughts. Like the bike, looks pretty good to me.

I've attached some photos.

Details of the bike:

Seat tube: 55 cm
Top tube: 54 cm
Standover height: 31 in
Raleigh 555 Tubing Double Butted
Suntour Super Bee Shifters, Derailleurs
Aero Grand Compe Brakes, Brake Levers
Aerox Crankset

Claims no dents or dings, just some scratches.

Only dislike is the totally ridiculous brake lever cable routing (and the lack of lever hoods). Makes me question other mechanical shortcuts seller may have taken. Once you add shipping, you could get a pretty awesome bike locally, depending on where you live of course.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

He offered me $380 shipped. I offered my FedEx account and he went down to $300.

I have 4 bikes now, two that I race and train on. I have 2 Bianchi's, one Pista and an Eros.

Real tempted. Wanted to see if that was a decent price.

I'm in NY, the bike would ship from CA.

Nice components, but 555 is the low end of Reynolds frames.

Seems like a full-value price, but it does look very clean...

Thanks. Still on the fence on this one. Asked a guy I knew at a shop I buy from and he at first said no way. After I showed him the photos he changed his mind on it. He said for $300 wouldn't be getting anything much better than it.

Guy at Raleigh was a definite no, but does look pretty clean and good.

Are there any other alternatives you'd suggest to this option?

1983 Raleigh Prestige Gran Sport Brake Hoods

I have one of these bikes, excellent light weight club racing bike from the era. It has a fast ride and is very responsive. I rode it three times on the Make A Wish WAM 300 in Michigan and was perfectly comfortable for three back to back centuries. Regarding the hoods, these brakes are the Aero Dia Comp Gran Comp brakes and the hoods are natural gum rubber. Mine finally dry rot and crumbled off the bike. I was able to fine replacements on ebay easily and inexpensively.

Was really excited for this, but held off and someone else picked it up. Most opinion was that it was too much.

Picked up a Computrainer and will just focus on my training. Have eyes open for another bike when it comes around.

Thanks for the input.
