Tommasini Columbus SL

I picked up this Tommasini today. It was totally disassembled and came with a complete 8 speed dura ace groupset in very nice condition. I have not measuered the frame but I think it is a 53 cm by looking at it. What would this frame bring on ebay and what year do you think it is from. I think it will clean up pretty nice.

Not sure what it's worth but I like it...if you come up with an asking price shoot me a PM.

Any rust other than what is seen on the fork? Any dents/gouges? For a frame of this caliber, condition is huge.

Depending on condition, the DA bits alone will be worth about 50% more than the frameset (assumes 8 speed STI). DA from that era gets a nice response. Condition is everything. And parting out means ebay, with all the usual ebay issues.

Serial numbers on Tommasinis are pretty useful. Mine started with a "9" and it turned out to be a 1989 model.

That's the "quattro-colori" paint scheme. It came out in 1990 but I'm not sure how many years they used it. Is the group STI or just SIS down tube shifters?

The Dura Ace Group has STI and is a complete set and in very nice condition. Did they make a 8 speed down tube shifter???? The Dura Ace groupset maybe newer than the frame??

Could be, check the date codes. My 1989 Tommasini came with 8 speed DA STI, which is certainly newer than the bike. But the rest of the group could be original, as the 8 speed DA STI plays well with earlier 7400 DA models, so an owner may have just upgraded the shifters to enjoy newer technology.

According to Sheldon Brown, 8 speed DT DA came out in 1989, 8 speed DA STI came out in 1991.

Yes it's possible the STI was added later or even the entire group. A lot of these were sold as framesets, so it may have sat around for a year or two in a shop before being purchased and built up.
