Puch mistral se

Im looking for a classic bike and I came across this ad
https://www.segundamano.es/barcelona/...=8_s&st=a&c=46

selling a Puch Mistral SE.The add claims that is Reynolds 531 you reckon is true? I've read some other posts in the site and understood that only high end models had Reynolds 531 frames.
Could someone advise me if it worths what they ask? ie 270 euros?
Thank you in advance

The components on the bike do not seem to suggest a 531 frame as they are mostly mid to lower lever components, especially if it turns out that the "Auxilliary" brake levers are original to the bike. 270 Euros fif its a 531 frame maybe, but too high if it isn't 531. Maybe $100 Euros max if it is straight gauge High tensile steel tubing and maybe 200 if its just the three main tube that are 531.
Does he have any pictures of a Reynolds 531 decal on the bike by chance??

no not really no pics on decals saying 531. I might pay a visit and check it out my self. Any hints on what should be looking at in particular to identify the steel quality? You reckon components are original?

Thank for the replies!Actually I'm based in Barcelona Spain and with shipping cost its not worth getting a bike fom ebay in the uk or central Europe. I'll have to stick to the local market.

hi all,
I have Puch Mistral SE of unknown year I guess around 1980 from what I was able to find out. I think there is a small damage on rear derailleur holder as well derailleur itself but all seems to work just fine. It's 57cm frame which fits me just well, but I'm bit unhappy about crankset, I know it's Sakae Ringyo Super Custom 53/42T - might not be original chain rings, but I was unable to narrow down what BCD it is. From what I measured it might be around 115 mm but I could find models with 86mm and 144mm, I would like to replace crankset since left crank isn't original and I don't think pedal axles are completely parallel. But during short rides I've taken so far I can get used to it. Does it make any sense to invest into crankset considering damage to rear derailleur on img_4430 even some damage do rear derailleur can be seen on bottom of mechanism. BTW axle nuts on rear hub aren't 100% health as well and are grinding a bit on frame while tightened and loosened. I'm thinking of getting some thread looks to be M10x1

I know that wheels, brake handles, seat are changed. But would like to keep bike as 'vintage' as possible.

Link to google album

Or should I just ride&enjoy it as much as possible? I'm new to road biking and listed myself on small event to bike cca. 150km this summer and planned to do it on this bike.

Just measure it, should take five seconds or less. It can be done with the crank installed on the bike. Check out Sheldon Brown site for very simple instructions.

Around here, replacement Suntour derailleurs are very inexpensive. Sounds like you need to find a good bike shop for assistance, or spend some time learning about bike maintenance. Bike maintenance is not hard, but does take some research (all on line) to get familiar with tools and techniques, and you will need to invest in some tools.
