Bianchi Sport SS DB Magny

Just got this from my BIL, it's a Japanese made Bianchi Sport SS (never heard of this model). The frame is a full Ishiwata double butted Magny, including stays and fork. 27 inch Shimano/Araya wheelset, DiaCompe single pivot brakeset and levers.

It's got Shimano Golden Arrow drive train, 6 speed. Can't make out the date codes on the components. I'm wondering:

-- year of manufacture
-- worth after restoration

TIA!

Probaby early 1980's.

Value before restoring: $125 to $150

Value after restoring: $125 to $150 (minus whatever you spend on it)

Very tall, but I think I could still get close to $200 for it fully overhauled.

Hope you have ample storage room, as it can take a while to sell a tall bike, particularly a so so one, like this one.

+1 to $200. Maybe add a Bianchi name premium to that figure.

Wow to below, leave it to ebay... The Bianchi name is a definite draw.

You never know on selling a large bike locally. I had a beautiful Schwinn Super Sport, 25 inch frame size, probably had less than 10 miles on it, in pristine shape: took me over a year to sell, and I discounted it heavily. Four days later, I had another customer looking for a 25 inch bike, and sold my second one.

I guess this means that the frame was fabricated in 1983?

Thanks for the feedback, it will be restored and then I'll decide what I'll do with it. It's a smidge too tall for me and the top tube is way too short.

You have what looks to be an '83 Sport SS and it seems to have matured into the Sport SX in '85 but with a nicer frame.

Just because that '84 Sport SS on Ebay sold for $388 doesn mean yours will. Not that many people are looking for a bike like that in a 63, and one of the few found his bike. Is there a way to determine when that bike sold? Also it is in LA and the OP is in Spokane so I am sure it might take a bit to sell a bike up there this time of year.

You can get a bike from a known manufacturer with golden arrow 105 for $125? Gotta keep my eyes peeled.

Is golden arrow that much worse than arabesque?

Dude, if you're serious about selling this, I am looking for a large bike for a tall friend of that era and in [twice] that price range.

Do you all think that selling the frame, Golden Arrow parts as a group, and the wheelset separately would be wiser? I'm sure that the Golden Arrow set would be very useful to someone trying to duplicate a groupset on a project. The frame, as you all think, is either a keeper or a dumper, perhaps a gravel grinder? The wheelset is nothing special, a 105 Shimano/Araya 27" that wouldn't be very valuable, maybe a keeper...

I see your point. I'm thinking that it might sell very well to a friend who volunteers at the co-op. He's long-legged, short torsoed, was looking for this very thing. Either that, or sell in the spring when Bianchis sell for a premium here in Spokane.
Thank you ladies and gentlemen for you valuable input.

I've taken it apart and would like to take some pictures. Will post when done.

Sold the bike to a student today, price: $200

I think it was worth more, since I also sold a bare bones Sekine for $150. No matter, it gives me some much needed income from bikes!
