What tubing on this Ciocc, is it worth purchasing

I am interested in getting a ciocc frame and found this one on ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ciocc-bicy...item1e75d5eb1a

I emailed the seller to ask what tubing it has, but he said he doesn't know because its got no markings on it.

What do you think the bike is worth, and does anyone have any idea what the tubing is, and if the frame is reasonably light weight, or equivalent to a reynolds 531.

Appreciate any information/opinions

First of all, welcome aboard!

Typically, these Ciocc frames are Columbus tubing in the SL / SP / SLX series.

As for worth - looks like original parts have been stripped and replaced with a hodgepodge, so if it were the original Campy, would bring more. As it is with an upright bar setup, not as much as you might think because the most likely action is for someone to strip it and replace with all vintage stuff.

I sold a Ciocc with full Campy a couple years ago for $600 USD. Maybe half that for this one, perhaps a little more to the right person. Might even sell better as a frame/fork only to save the trouble of disassembly, as I doubt the buyer will want this setup.

I would guess Aelle or Cromor for the tubing. Appears to be a later Ciocc, possibly made after the name was sold. A higher end Ciocc would have more chrome. Components might be somewhat original, since these were often sold as a frameset only. Also, it was very popular for retailers to mix and match groupsets.

For a bike with "unknown" tubing, I wouldn't go too far out on a limb pricewise, but as a Ciocc owner I can recommend the ride characteristics.

When trying to determine what to pay, I would have to budget for new bars, brakelevers, pedals, and possibly a stem. Not crazy about biopace cranks either, so that would be some more $$$.

Personally, I would hold out for one of the SLX models, such as the Designer 84.

Drivetrain may or may not be original. Either way it looks worn and dirty. The bike needs an overhaul, and a proper handlebar setup.

Without knowing the tubing, and given the state of the rest of the bike I would not be too interested. I agree with thinktubes, I would wait and buy something better where you know what you're getting. I don't think I'd want it at $300. Maybe $200.

Loved the bike right up until I got to the handlebar/brakes/shifters. I'm not sure how much the bike is being in "funny money" but it will take some care to get back to it's original luster.

117 british pounds already = ~ $190. Close to value already given frankenbike collection of so so components, missing appropriate bars and levers, probably lower end Columbus, etc.

With three unique bidders, and almost three days left, my interest would be waning.

Since the seller only appears to be offering local pickup so perhaps you can check out the bike in person and take it for a spin and see if it will work for you. I can see that bike making an excellent daily rider with a couple of tweaks. Hopefully it will go cheap as I think the setup will definitely turn most people off which, of course, would work to your advantage.

No idea on the tubing but for awhile Ciocc was using Oria tubes

Interesting, mine came from Great Britain as well. All Shimano 105, Columbus Aelle tubing, tubular rims. I can't help you on the value of the one on Ebay as I didn't pay much for mine. That said, I love the ride so much that I wouldn't give it up for cheap.
