What's this 1975 Raleigh Gran Sport worth?
I recently finished fixing up this ’75 Raleigh Gran Sport. My brother was the original owner, and I'd bet it’s been ridden less than 500 miles since new. It has a 22.5”/57cm frame, serial number WD5001801.
I replaced tires, tubes, rim strips, cables, housing, and handlebar tape and repacked the headset and BB with new bearings. I cleaned, buffed, polished, touched up, lubed and tuned everything to the best of my ability. The bike came to me without pedals, so I installed period-correct Miches and new Christophe straps. Everything else you see is original. The paint, chrome, and decals are in remarkable condition for an almost 40 year-old bike.
I believe the Gran Sport fell between the Competition and the Super Course in the Raleigh range back then, but you don’t see them as often. I know it’s not worth a ton of money, but I was wondering what fair market value would be for this bike, in this condition. Thanks!

Not enough for all the love you put into it.

I wouldn't take less than $300 for it. I'd try for more though.

I would say even a bit more, but I am very biased. I really love these bikes.
Not too many people know about them though so this does depress the value, except for the cognoscenti who would do somersaults for one like yours.

If your bike fits you there is no way I would sell it. I don't think I have sen one as nice as yours. I have a little sellers remorse but I was on the N - 1 kick at the time. I snapped out of it though. I did make a good profit on it.

What he says. ^
PS - I don't think it is relevant to place the GS below the Competition - the latter was on a different scale along with the Pro. It would be more fair to say that the Grand Sport was just a notch below the International.

Point taken. Definitely more of a sports-tourer. Little small for me. Sure wish it was a 23.5" International in this same condition...

The sad thing is that this bike would probably be worth more parted out, but that would be a serious crime and WILL NOT happen. Beside the fact that I would be opposed to doing that on moral grounds, I would also be worried that the Cognoscenti would send out a hit squad.

Are the Cognoscenti an offshoot of the Illuminati?

I would be very interested in that bike if you were within driving distance of me. I have lusted after same model and same color combo. I agree with Bill, once it is sold you have zero control over parting out.
Hope it sells to a C&Ver that will ride it as-is. Big Raleigh/Carlton fan here appreciating it from afar.

That bike is awesome. I wouldn't want to sell it. I'd probably price it high enough that no one would buy it!
Frankly, if I had the space for it I would make you an offer myself. It is really nice, and my size.

That is one of the most beautiful Gran Sports that I have seen. I would say $300 minimum.

I don't think you should sell it. The money is nothing. $300 will be frittered away in no time. And then you won't have your brother's bike.
Okay, if you have a houseful of his things, maybe some editing is okay. But a bike is special.
I've told you about a bike I have, that comes to life every thirty years to be ridden by a boy for a few years. That one will never be sold either.
