Schwinn High Sierra, black chrome, rollercam brakes

Hello all, I picked this sweet thing up recently and am trying to decide what to do with it.

I'm definitely tempted to keep it and turn it into a fat tire drop bar bike (as in the very popular thread here). But I am 6'4" and not sure I could get it to fit well. Also my wife might kill me.

If I sell it my plan would be to clean it up, remove the dork disc etc, replace all the cables and service the hubs and bb. And wait until spring.

I believe it is all original other than the saddle and tires. The finish has lots of scuffs and scrapes, but no dings or dents that I've found. I love the black chrome, the high flange hubs, the bronze finish stem.

I got an okay deal on it, but not great, so I am wondering what you think it might be worth, and if you have any advice for selling if I do go that route. My local market (SLC) seems about average for a bigger city from what I can tell. Thanks for any help.

At 6'4", this bike will be pushing it size wise for you. I am a little bit taller than you and made one work with a longer stem and seatpost, but it was just too small. That said it is a large bike and that limits the market.

The components look mostly original, but the rear deralleur looks like a replacement.

These have a good following on here, but not much love elsewhere. I sold one for $135 a year or so ago. It sat for a while. I'd say $150 to $200 if you are patient.

Try on here too. There was someone looking for one of these in the for sale section.

^ I'd think that's about the right size mountain bike for someone 6'4". But yeah, I would keep or try to sell on here - those black chrome sierras are pretty sweet.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I've been wondering about sizing with these older ATBs. My current winter commuter is a '96 Trek 930 that is 23", the largest they made, and using a flat bar it fits okay with a 15cm stem and a fair bit of seatpost showing. This High Sierra is also the largest size they made, I believe, and would again require lots of seatpost and some added reach (though dropbars would help with this). Is there such thing as a nice vintage steel ATB that is actually big enough for the stupidly tall guys?

Isn't KSL a great spot to find bikes? I saw that bike on there and wished it was a tad bigger. I ride a 23 inch High Plains that is barely big enough (I'm about 6-2). I've been watching KSL for a couple of years looking for a bigger, old school mountain bike, but they are rare apparently. I love that black chrome though!
