1986 Mongoose Mangusta 5000 Aluminum Road Bike with 105 Group

Picked this up crazy cheap on CL. A family moved into a new house and the previous owner left this behind in the basement. Appears to have been sitting for many, many years- had a thick layer of dust on it that I cleaned off before taking the pictures. It's too small for me so it'll have to be a flipper. I'm a little unsure what to price it at though, because this is a bit higher end than what I'm used to dealing with.

Has a full Shimano 105 group. Araya double wall rims. Aluminum frame with CrMo stays. Biopace chainrings. 6 speed rear freewheel (unfortunately a freewheel rather than a cassette). Really looks like it was barely ever ridden- it even still has the blue protective tape from the factory over the chrome chainstay protector.

So, fully tuned, bearings re-packed, and everything set up properly, what would you ask for this bike?

Well that is a strange bike indeed. Can you get more detailed pics? Closer and any details like frame material stickers ect.

Sure, here are a few more: https://imgur.com/a/3Kgna

From what I've read about it, this is from Mongoose's brief foray into the road bike market in the mid and late 1980s. In 1985 they had a bike under the Mangusta name that was full chrome Columbus tubing and made by Motobecane, but they went to all aluminum in 1986. No idea who would have made this one. Doesn't have any country of origin stickers on it. Serial under the bottom bracket is either M7-A0611 or MZ-A0611 (partially covered by cable guide). Seatstay arrangement is rather unique, which you can sort of see in some of the pictures. Actually, I'll go get a close up picture of that...

Here's the strange seat cluster that I've never seen anything like before.

Fully overhauled I'd ask $250 or maybe $275.

That Turbo saddle is way cool. If you are looking to maximize your profit, sell it on ebay separately. Or sell it to me!

Cool score. That's a real time capsule from 1986. Seems like only yesterday...

It's just a classic saddle, people love them. I suspect part of the appeal is in the name, but I could be wrong.
