Rate the South East Florida Market

That would include Palm Beach, Ft Lauderdale, Miami, etc. I've been here a little over a month and looking and I can't imagine ever getting a deal of any kind here. Have not even seen listed a bike that is in the vaguest sense cheap or even reasonable. Everything is high. And I realize that is subjective, but...

I found my 80's Rossin in Central Florida for what I would consider a steal considering the components (dura ace) and condition (fantastic). Just keep hunting Craiglist

One month really is not long enough if you are just shopping on C/L. I have gotten great deals off C/L, including when I have traveled to Florida. But I am agnostic on size. Brought back four or five bikes last time I went to Florida, passed on several more.

Thank you. Central Florida is a far cry from South East though and I think South West (Ft Myers, Naples, etc) would even be much easier than here. I saw a couple interesting but not cheap up a ways in the Stuart area.

I found a 27" (68,5cm) Cannondale ST-400 in Miami for $125.00 asking, $100.00 selling. It was very rough for being in"good condition" but all I waned was the F&F anyway. A VERY rare find...

Used bikes are generally expensive here, but there are deals to be had if you avoid the resellers (like me :)) Let me know what you're looking for, and maybe I can help.

I am in N. Central Florida, & bikes are almost always quite high here, too . But, I run across a bargain every now & then on a couple of websites/yard sales , etc.. I agree that only being there for a month is not long enough . I have watched C'list for months & not seen a single bargain . Then , the next day I got out & bought several bikes. You have to be willing to drive a bit, too. Plenty of times, I have driven r/t up to 200 miles . One good thing is that since bikes are NOT a bargain in either of our locations, when you do find a bargain, you can resell it for a nice profit, if it is good condition. I recently picked up 2 vintage Schwinn bikes for $50 each, that need little more than wiping down. If I flip them, I expect them to sell for $125-$175, each.
Good luck !

I seek a 27" (68.5cm) Cannondale ST800 or ST1000 from 1986-89. MUST have cantilever brakes.
Entire bike or F&F will do..............

Anytime you have that specific of a target, I think you are best off with ebay. XXL size makes it harder.

When I find deals, I am both agnostic on size and agnostic on model and brand. I do avoid the dept store stuff, along with hybrids and mtbs. Last bikes picked up: a Specialized Cross bike, a Centurion, a Takara, a Schwinn, a Fuji, and a Nishiki. None were my size.

When I wanted something specific, like the Paramount Series 70 mtb, in a 15 inch size that I recently picked up for my wife, I reverted to ebay (I wanted either a 1992 series 70 or a 1992 series 90). Ditto the 1992 Series 7, in a 56cm size that I picked up for myself. Of course, I paid more than I usually do. But the bikes that don't fit fund the bikes that do fit.

I agree, that's going to be a hard bike to find down here. I've been paying particular attention to touring bikes for years, and I can only recall seeing one small Cannondale from the ST series in that time. Ronno6, you might try calling Bicycle Spot (954-772-4909) and tell Peyton what you're looking for.

Thanks for the phone #. I'll give Peyton a try. As I posted earlier, I did find that size 'Dale ST400 in Hialeah on CL. Not full blown touring rig, but it will be some day.

Have you used some of the " Search All Craigslist " type sites ? You may find something there , but finding that specific bike & size nearby, is going to be hard & will require luck.

I have done so in the past, but those "mash" sites seem to keep running afoul of CL and have to stop giving that useful information.
I'll look for more of those sites. Thanks.
