Help identify a late 80s/early 90s Bianchi (?) Frame
Hello everyone, this is my first post. There seems to be a lot of classic.vintage experts around here, so I hope you can help me with identifying my frame.
I picked up this frame and fork a few years ago. Used it first as fixed gear, but eventually decided to put a groupset on it and it became my main road bike. The frame rides very well, but it really needs a restoration/respray job (as you can see in the pictures). Before I do that, I would like to know a bit more about it.
Some information:
- The "British Racing Green" paint is obviously non-original and neither are the decals (both done by a previous owner)
- I got it as a frameset only. All the components were added by me
- It has chromed Gipiemme dropouts, a pump peg, and a FD braze-on
- Seatpost size is 27.2
- It has not identifiable stamps/pantographs/numbers on the frame. This could be due to the thick paint though.
This is as far as I got to with the identification:
- It was sold as a Bianchi and it seems in line with other Bianchi frames I have seen
- The fork could be non-original (I haven't seen any Bianchi frames with a chrome fork)
- Judging by the braze-ons it appears to be be late 80s/early 90s
- Judging by the FD braze on, it could be a mid-range/higher-end frame (somehow most lower end models came with band-on front derailleurs)
What I would love to know is more precise year/model name (or at least roughly where it would sit in the Bianchi hierarchy) and the likely tubing. Thanks in advance!
And now the pictures:

If you are going to paint it anyways, sand down the bottom of the bottom bracket and look for serial numbers.

That said, knowing more about it before I start dismantling the thing would be helpful (i.e. it would probably determine how much I want to spend on the refinish), so wondering if there is anyone else out there with any clues?
