Everything looks good except the chain ring, the teeth of which looks quite worn out. Side question: Is this even a C&Vgroup? lol

In my opinion, if the shifters work , it's worth it , but that can be a crap shoot . If you tried to buy all that stuff piece by piece , you would be right there ($200).

It is a little more than I would pay. The value is in the brifters. I would offer $150 and go up from there.
I picked up pretty much the same group plus the bottom bracket for $200. It was Shimano 600/Ultegra/tricolor in excellent shape. I also picked up a Shimano 600/Ultegra/tricolor group in rougher shape for $100.

105SC with 8 speed, brifters and dual pivot would date 1993-1998, so it would probably not be considered C&V by most members. It's hard to tell how worn the chainrings are, which would drastically affect the value. I think you could get a better deal by looking for a donor bicycle with 105SC and selling the frame and parts you don't need.

If the chain ring wasn't too badly worn I'd be willing to pay that. Fully functional brakes/shifters/derailleurs would be worth it. Even if the chain rings turn out to be worn. Its not so hard to get new chain rings/crank sets for a decent price. I'm also partial to 8 speed groups for their simplicity. Easy to tune and the chain lasts a long time.

You can build a new Veloce group for about $400 on Ribble or Wiggle, a better investment than $200 on a group that is 20 years old. It might be worth it to ask him if he has a wheelset and work out a price from there.
As T-Mar has already said, a complete bike with this group would likely be in the $300 range.

Thanks for the explanation. Where did you look for donor bikes? Anything on CL now a days are just overpriced.
A veloce set just turned up in my local market. $350

You find older STI equipped bikes on CL..and $300-400 is usually pretty much the asking price. For whatever reason it seems I skip 8 speed in my own stable of bikes...plenty of 5, 6, 7 and plenty of 9 & 10....personally, I think 9 speed STI is the bargain group though it's not C&V by this group's standards for sure.
