Is this RB-1 really worth $500?

This RB-1 just turned up in my local craigslist and the seller is asking for $500. Is that a fair price? It does seem like he put some modern components on it, but I call bull on "Selling for what I purchased it for".

Total would at least check it out if I didnt just buy a miyata 710. what's the wheel size/spacing on this one?

While not all original, the seller should have no problem getting at least $450, once the snow lifts. In fact they go for more on fleabay, not BBC. Read all about them at sheldonbrown.

Nice bike. I would be negotiating if it were closer to me.

I paid less than that for my '92 RB-1 and mine was in NOS condition. Mine has 600/tricolor/Ultegra components which are a step or two up from what this bike has. I would offer $350 and maybe go up a little.

I hope so!!! I picked up the same bike on CL, in my size a year or so ago. It still had the garage sale sticker on the seat.

I would say only $300-350 tops the Accushift gearing and mismatched wheels just really kill me interest and value wise. With accushift and mismatched wheels this is a generius estimate of value. I wouldn't go above $200 for something with accushift normely so this is very generoius price wise sonsidering the love I have for Bridgestones.

+1

Accushift + mismatched wheels kills the value for me too. Brake levers aren't original either. For me, I would basically be buying the frame and some bits like the seatpost, stem, bars, etc. And I would not pay anywhere near $500 for those pieces.

It would last about 5 minutes at $300 here in Toronto, $500 with some wiggle room seems very fair to me. It would seem that this is also the case in Chicago as the ad is now gone.
