1981 Miyata 610 Frameset - in Rough shape

Woops.. it is a Miyata 912.. not Miyata 610

Is the frame set worth anything? $50 or $75?

I'm building up 1974 Raleigh Professional frame set and could use the stem, headset, handlebars, brakes, tires, wheel set (temporary). rear derailleur, seat post

Also, would it better to respray? I might be respraying my Raleigh and I could practice on the Miyata.

Thanks for your thoughts!

You lost me. The title is frameset in rough shape, the link is to a complete bike in pretty decent shape, that is already at $260. If you are buying it as a donor bike? Don't. Its already close to full value, and it has some oddball parts on it.

I would consider the bike in that auction to have a pretty decent frameset, that I would never consider repainting.

Want something to practice painting on? Hit a garage sale or thrift store, pick up some total POC bike for $20, and spray away.

Finding $20 bikes at garage sales or thrift stores is easy, I see them all the time. My local GW has about 10 of them right now. The challenge is finding a DECENT bike at a garage sale or thrift store. That is much more difficult. For practice, I would just buy a POC, take it apart, paint it, and redonate it back.

Respraying nicer vintage bikes is a great way to spend serious money and destroy value. Paint needs to be pretty bad for it to make any sense. The choice is yours.

Hi,

I bought the bike because I wanted the oddball parts. :) I will be picking it up in a few weeks. I live in Japan, but will be home in the States for six weeks. I bought this bike up for parts for a 1974 Raleigh Professional 531 frameset that I plan to build up randonneur style. If I like the Raleigh, it will replace my current bike that I commute with, Surly LHT with 26 inch wheels. That Miyata has some nice parts that I was eying to buy... Nitto handle bars and stem and I think the seatpost is too. Plus, I need a wheelset, tires. freehub, headset and brakes. The Superbe brakeson the Miyata look sweet. Buying these parts seperately gets awfully expensive when you add in postage for each item. The Miyata is too big for.. so I will probably sell just as a frameset.

Very true. The Raleigh Professional frameset that I bought was painted in the past and given the wrong decals.... I got it at $180 Nice Raleigh Professional framesets look like they can go over $400

$75 sounds about right.
