80's Trek 620

Mostly unmolested Trek 620. No dents at all. No rust to speak of.
New bars, stem, levers, tires, saddle.
Yeah. Helicomatic, so what? It's the original wheel set and they work fine. The races and cones are perfect. Galvanized spokes not badly corroded.

What is the future market (from your crystal ball) for these Trek touring bikes?
What changes would you do to make is more marketable?
What money would you ask for in SF Bay Area?

I would swap out that saddle. Its worth $$, and it goes free if its still on the bike (and not every buyer is going to appreciate it anyway, so it could lower value). Think Avocet Touring or similar.

The future market for a 1980s Trek touring bike, with a 531 frameset and cantilever brakes? Outstanding IMHO. The 620 was only made for three years, and the first year did not have cantis. Yours looks like the second year (1984), I have two of them.

Other than the saddle, the other change I would make is take a picture with a quiet background (lose the van). Gray with gray background doesn't show the bike in its best light either.

Touring Treks have been going high lately on feebay. I imagine SF market is similar, so local C/L sale might do just fine.

You might want to run a little smaller tire on that bike. From the pics, it looks as if the tire almost touches the frame. Agreed that the saddle needs to go and probably so does the tape. You've pretty obviously overhauled the bike (since you said the cones were in perfect shape) so I'd highlight the work you put into the tike. The rule of thumb is that you get more money on ebay than CL but SF is a pretty good market; you should do fine on CL without the various overhead costs associated with ebay. The bike has to look good and you have to tell a story about the bike to get top dollar. It sounds like you are very much on your way.

I'd think about linking your ad to the trek catalog online for your bike. That way buyers know that your bike is pretty much original.

The Oracle says list it at $495 with racks as shown. Corroded spokes will hurt value, so be prepared to take less.
