80's Schwinn Sprint
I have a 1980's model Schwinn Sprint which I would like to sell but have no idea what to ask for it. It has never been ridden and has been hanging in my recently passed Grandmother's basement. I've test ridden it a couple of miles and everything seems to work just fine. The older gear style is hard to get used to for me and it is too big for me. I am 5'6". Any thoughts here or further questions about the bike to help me know a reasonable price would be great. Thanks.

Hi Rhonda,
Your question belongs in Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries.
The eighties Schwinn Sprints were entry level bikes with high tensile steel frames. Even if it's in near perfect condition, it's doubtful you'd be able to sell it for more than $100.

Vintage, but not a classic. They are heavy and ride like a truck. Hence the low value. If you're near a college campus, a student will pay you $125 if its in very good condition.

I'd agree with the $100ish quotes, if its got good tires and is in riding condition. It might take awhile on craigslist though, depending on where you live.
I really like mine, its a great city commuter. Left it unlocked, accidently, at a metrolink station(light-rail) and it was still there 3 hours later. That's one thing that couldn't be said of a pricey bike.

Last time I sold an 80's Sprint, I was in for $10.00,(garage sale) and out for $50.00. 2 universities near me and an active, bike oriented population may make my results better than yours. But I'm in the Midwest, so prices are lower than the coasts or metro areas.
