Does anyone know anything about these bikes or what an acceptable price would be for one?

I don't know much about them but if the price really is 250 I think I would be driving to get it.

The 974 is the best of the late eighties/early nineties Schwinn Aluminums. The manufacturing was done by Schwinn using Klein aluminum technology. The somewhat harsh ride can be mitigated with an appropriate change in tires. IMHO $250 is a fair price.
The biggest potential "gotcha" is the expander seatpost. If you look at the bike, make sure it's got the right seatpost and that neither the seatpost nor the seat tube are damaged.
Here are the specifications.

Pretty great deal, just check that seatpost very carefully for cracks, especially around the adjustment bolt.

One of the earlier attempts at aluminum by Schwinn. Good frames as far as I know, but they have that goofy expander seatpost of which I am not a fan. I had one once, it rode nice but it didn't do much for me and I sold it.
$250 is a fair price IMO. Just MAKE SURE the seatpost is not stuck or damaged, and also check the stem of course.
