Raleigh

Is this old Raleigh bike one of the "good ones" & worth fixing up ??
How old is it ??

I paid $75 for it today and it needs new tires and tubes.

I got a the original pair of aluminum alloy rims with it (Fiamme with Gnutti QR levers & tubular tires) so the 1986 steel Rigidas on it must be upgrades.
Carlton stickers on frame & forks.
Reynolds 531 sticker on 23-inch seat tube
"Super Course" on top tube
Stronglight cranks
Brooks B17 saddle
Simplex derailleurs & levers
Weinmann callipers & levers

Yup, great price.

I don't have a Super Course, but I would like one. A lot of people love them. I believe the main tubes were straight gauge 531 steel. My perception is that this bike marks the point in Raleigh's lineup where the bikes started getting good. So it was the lowest of the nicer bikes, if that makes sense.

It's not one of the "good ones," but it sure isn't bad either. See https://sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/super-course.html
As for age, Raleighs are easy to date by the serial number. Probably mid-70s. See https://sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/dating.html and https://www.kurtkaminer.com/TH_raleigh_serials.html

Raleigh

Steel Rigida rims? Not an upgrade at all. Probably want to get a nice set of alloy wheels. The tubular wheelset sounds interesting though. Your Super Course has Capella lugs which makes it a '73 model. Careful with the Brooks saddle. Probably dry as a bone. Some leather conditioner may bring it back. Nice find!
