Bridgestone mb-3 = ?
Hi Y'all,
Very new to this, so bear with me...
Had a circa '93 MB-3 stolen recently...my insurance will pay my replacement cost (not depreciated cost, not the current used cost)...so of course the question is, what would a comparable modern bike cost?
Yes, I know there is nothing strictly comparable; hopefully someone familiar with the bike can steer me towards examples of comparable quality, components, etc... so that I can give the insurance folks a reasonable
facsimile.
Anyone?
Thanks!
David

When dealing with an insurance company for a replacement bike I took my totaled bike to a LBS and got a written estimate for replacement value. And if you really wanted to be thorough you could go to a few shops and go with the highest.

Thanks, but I of course don't have the bike, and nobody in the LBSs are a: familiar with such an old model, and b: have any idea which modern bike would be comparable...

Older guys in the shop should know exactly what it is; just tell them what you need and why. And, if they know your coming back to spend the money on a new bike in their shop, they'll be less likely to be stingy with the estimate.

Find another shop. Download specs off the internet, Bridgestone catalogs are all there. You can find similar older mtbs for $150 around here. Modern equivalent: $500. MB3 was middle of the line back then.
