Should I buy a Bianchi Sport SX?

I was at a garage sale today and saw a sea foam green Bianchi Sport SX for $50. It has a small amount of rust and needs new tires and tubes. Original owner. I don't know very much about Bicycles but I need one and don't want to put to much money into it... BTW It is right for my height.

Thanks in advance.

For $50? YES. Go get it, but I'm guessing someone else has grabbed it already at that price.

You need one and it fits , go back and buy it ! With new tires and tubes (on line) , you will still be under $100 .

My first Bianchi was a Sport SX, back in 1987 as a student at UGA in Athens, Ga. Mine was red with white decals. Had an Exage Biopace groupset. Very good bike- I did a student open criterium and a biathlon on that bike with no issues. Always regret selling it when I moved to the Rockies and got the mtb bug.

Post some pix. Cheeers

Nice score, I'd like to see pictures too. Make sure you overhaul all the bearings and redo all the cables, I'm sure it needs that at a minimum.

I agree nice score! A celeste Sport SX is either an '88 or '89 depending on the group, Sport LX would be '89. I have an '87 (my first ever new bike and also first Bianchi) and I love it!

Any pics? If it needs tires I would put some Panaracer Pasela tan wall 700x23 tires on it.

Will this be used as a commuter/general exercise bike? If so, I'd recomend a little thicker tires, smoother ride and a little less prone to flats. These 28's worked good for me, maybe even 32's if they fit this model?
Buy $100 and shipping is free.

Tire spoons are def recomended, Tires, Tubes, maybe a rack or other accessories to get you to 100.

I like my Sport SX so far. As a data point, the person who owned it ahead of me said the tire clearance maxed out at 700x28 -- perhaps they varied by year, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about going bigger than that.

I would be surprised if your rims aren't "700C", with those the most popular tire widths are 700x23, 700x25, and 700x28. 23s are smaller, feel faster, and need to be pumped to a higher pressure, 28s are bigger and cushier feeling, and don't need to be pumped up as high. You could get any of those sizes. As far as brands, I like Panaracer Paselas for the classic look.

Aren't those just normal clip-and-strap pedals? Do you need special shoes?

Honestly I'd just get modern clipless pedals and shoes.

Any cycling shoe that will accept a slotted type cleat. Find an old shop and ask about old clip and strap shoes.

Exage Motion would make it an '88 great bike!

Of course he needs special shoes. You don't expect him to ride in wingtips do you?
