Centurion Dave Scott Ironman current value?

Hi all,

I've come across a Centurion Dave Scott Ironman, and the seller would like $125. I thought this was a pretty good price, but as I discussed the bike with the seller he mentioned (in a moment of poor negotiating strategy) that he'd had it listed for $200 and hadn't gotten it sold, so he lowered the price. That gave me pause. I'm in Southern California, and I would have thought that the bike should have sold at $200, but maybe the market for these has dried up? It looks like there are a few Ironmans (Ironmen? ) on ebay that haven't gotten any bids, so maybe the price checking I've done is too old.

So can anyone give me any ideas? As I understand it, this is the Ironman from before Expert/Master designations. It's in the mint green/white color combo. Assuming it's in good working condition, what's the value? What if it needs minor work or has some scratches, etc.? (I'd post a photo, but the ones I've seen are pretty useless for detail).

Thanks!

$125 is a great price if it is in rideable condition. Should bring $250 in So Cal iin good condition.

Bikes sell for well under market all the time due to poor marketing by the seller, inadequate preparation, dirty or whatever.

As far as needing work affecting price, it's huge. Most do not have the skills or tools to rehab a bike, so the cost of repairs can exceed the value of the bike

Yup, I got a Premis for about 80 bucks once that had been listed on CL at that price for over a week... 1 really crappy picture was all he had up and virtually no description. However if you don't know what problems to be looking out for, a really cheap bike like that can be a nightmare.

Hey - thanks, guys. I'll take a look at it, and if it seems to be in good running condition, and reasonably good aesthetic condition for its age, I'll probably pick it up.

Much obliged.

+1 Now that it has been exposed as a deal, I would go grab it now. You never know who might be monitoring the forums, and scoop you.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

Actually, there are a bunch of nice Centurions, Lemans, IMs, etc., in LA, all at fair prices.

Hi guys - thanks for your advice on this. Actually, I'm in SD rather than LA, so I won't be taking advantage of those deals (unless there's a really ridiculous one maybe...).

So after having spoken with the seller a couple times, with the most recent conversation including the exchange: 'Okay, I'll see you tonight after I get off work. Would you mind holding it for me?' 'Sure, no problem', what do you think happened? Got a text message from the seller as I was leaving work: 'the bike is already sold.'

Oh, well. I probably have enough projects already anyway.

I picked one up out near Fontana last week for $130. I probably could have shaved a few more bucks off, but seemed like a good deal. I see them listed for between $150 and $400 all the time around here. Was this the teal and white one in SD with the wacky handlebars?

Yeah, I think that was probably the one - it had some sort of weird, early concept aero bars. I would have pulled those post haste.

And sorry for the delay in response - I've been offline.
