Shogun ID, please...
Garage sale find; wheels off, no skewers, one tire, bought it mostly for the Shimano 600 Arabesque components and nice Araya rims.
Serial # M9J17416 has me thinking it may be a 1979...is that right?
Anybody know what model this is, and its approximate worth if cleaned, lubed, and put back together?
Thanks!

A very nice exampe of top end Japanese frame. While underated I really like the Shoguns they had a bit of style. Based on the decals Shogun label and slightly more aggressive geometry I would quess this frame may be coule of years newer than 79. Cleaned up back together with 600 Arabesque $250 or so. Actually since it's apart right now if you wanted to part out what you have including the frame on Ebay you should get more say $150+ for the frame and about the same for the components nicely presented and sold individely.

Nice looking frame, but Tange 5 is lower end of tube sets. I would put the frame value closer at $50, with the complete value basically the value of the arabesque group.

It has rack and fender mounts. It probably uses Tange 5 because it's not a lightweight.

+1 Tange 5 = straight gauge, lowest version of cromoly. Also means stays and fork are most likely high ten steel. In addition, Shogun name gets a lesser response.
I would do your plan, either keep the arabesque components for personal use, or sell them, then if you have the space, wait for a donor and rebuild the Shogun. If you are space limited, offer up the frameset here or locally on C/L.
I just finished stripping a frameset of arabesque myself, that will move onto another home.

Still learning
Shoguns in Michigan are a tough sell IMHO, probably the same in Chicago. Maybe $200 in East Lansing? Little or no brand recognition. I picked up what I believe is a Shogun 400 full Arabesque, minus wheels, several months ago for a pretty low number. No rush to flip, because I think that's a bike best sold in the NYC area, much higher profile. I've sold a super clean Shogun Sport for $275 last summer in NNJ.

Thanks for all the responses.
With too many other irons in the fire I sold the frame, fork, headset, bb, and Tourney crank to a buddy for $40. The Arabesque shifters and derailleurs, and Ideale 2002 saddle, are heading to fleebay. Should add up to a bit more than the $25 I paid for the bike...
