Nishiki Prestige $200 ...good deal?

Saw this on Craigslist...how much should I be willing to pay?

"Nishiki Prestige road bike. easy shifting, recently tuned, 50 cm or 30" standover, new tires, Suntour components, Dia-comp brakes, accushift shifting, 7sp rear der., double chainring in front" Asking

I haven't seen anything in a while on CL under $250 that, according the the other posters, wasn't $50+ overpriced.

I am no Nishiki expert but I think $200 for basic ChroMoly and Edge is OK, but I don't think I would say its a good deal.

50cm is pretty small.

If it fits, meaning 5'5" or less in height, go for it.

You do need to realize that most of the good people here are horse traders by nature. If you're buying a bike to ride, I wouldn't really worry about $50 mol if the bike fits and you like it. People here are basing prices on what they think a good deal is, but they're ultra sharp buyers often with an eye on resale value. They have time and patience. If you want a bike to ride, you may not have quite the same luxury and you have to go with what's being offered in your market. If you find something you like, don't worry too much is it's $50 more than an expert might pay. But make sure whatever you buy fits. You may be small enough for that bike but it always scares me a bit when I see people asking about a small frame as I picture them hunched over something way too small for them.

That's a tiny frame. How tall are you?

I would say if the frame fits well, go for it. I would make sure on the frame, however.

I built a Prestige that was a little too small for me. I loved riding the bike, but my back hurt after each ride.
I eventually swapped the components to another bike and gave the frame to my nephew.

I have been looking for a Prestige frame to replace the aforementioned bike for at least the last two years.
I was prepared to travel 250 miles and pay $200 for one recently, but it had sold. The Prestige is a sweet ride indeed for someone who likes a steel road bike.

Thanks for all the help. I'm 5'9 so it turns out this frame was way too small, unfortunately. I've now got my sights on a Panasonic DX1000 which I'm thinking about offering ~$150 for, which based on what I've read elsewhere on the boards shouldn't be an unreasonable price. I'm OK with spending a little more than what the experts on this site would be willing to pay...I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything ridiculous (like buying the $175 Firenze that was apparently given away for free at stereo stores in the 70's).
