The bike is a Raleigh Sport mens Road bike
The serial number is M9AH19120. it has a Sturmey Archer 88-11 hub. I checked online for serial charts and not come close to matching mine. would really love to know what i got.
Thanks in advance

its a 3 speed, 26 1 3/8 Tires, Viscount seat. Sturmey Archer shifter (88-11) the Brake light reflector matches the late 70 early 80's but the serial number doesn't match anything.

Is there a date code on the 3-speed hub? if you're trying to date it, the year of the bike is most likely the date on the hub or maybe 1 year later.

Why is the serial number not in any charts? the number does not resemble any i have seen.

That means the hub was made in 1988, November. So the bike is probably an 89 or maybe 88.

I'm no expert, but I have yet to ever find a Raleigh Sports that fits the charts. I think it's for a couple of reasons: Raleigh has gone through tens of different serial number systems over the years so it's tricky to keep track of them all, and with the Sports, there was some strange partnership with Gazelle that may have confused the things further. Thankfully, they tend to have the Sturmey Archer hubs with the date on it.
Just outta curiousity, is yours made it Nottingham, England, or in Taiwan?

It's a 1989 model, contract manufactured in January of that year, by Merida of Taiwan. The Raleigh serial number charts only cover internal manufacture by Raleigh facilities, not contract manufacturing. That would get very complicated very quickly.

Just to explain this a little further for those that want to know ............ maybe it is obvious. The first two characters "M9" are what count, M = Merida, 9 = year (1989).

About half your Raliegh serial numbers will not be on the charts. Most of the charts only cover most British made Ralieghs and not ones made in other counties or by Raliegh Bicycle Company of America. In general serial number charts are just not very good for correctly Identifying or dating vintage bikes.
