Frame Identification - Please Help!
Hey there,
Just bought this frame on ebay and would really appreciate any help with an ID or any more information that you might be able to provide.
Description on ad was as follows:
"A Retro Steel Road Bike Frame and Fork with Benelux Cyclo rear drop outs.
Not sure of the make, maybe a Carlton?
This is Reynolds 531 tubing.
It is a lugged frame, with nervex stamped bottom shell..."
Pictures attached below.
Thank you!

Welocme to the forums. The subject frame is almost certainly British based on the Cyclo-Benelux dropouts, as these were spec'd primarily in Great Britain. However, it may be very difficult to determine the marque, as Britain had literally dozens of cottage industry framebuilders and there are no truly distinctive features. For instance, the lugs appear to stock Nervex Super Legere models.
The frame itself should be earlier than 1955, as this is when the Sport model of Cyclo-Benelux forged dropouts were first cataloged. UK Cyclo reportedly did not survive into the 1970s and started declining heavily in the very early 1960s, so the frame is most likely late 19650s to very early 1960s.
Regarding the Reynolds decal, it does not appear to be original, as the wide gold border on the bottom with Reynolds Tube Co, dates to circa 1973-1976 and this clearly post dates the dropouts. The frame may be Reynolds, but it may be difficult to verify. Reynolds did stamp the ends of the tubes but often this is not visible through the paint. However, a good idea of the level of the tubing can be ascertained via the inner diameter of the seat tube or the diamter of a properly fitting seat post.
It's unfortunate that the brake bridge has been crushed.
