Takara "Deluxe Sport" - worth the $30?
Hey all, stumbled upon this Takara Deluxe Sport on my local craigslist. Seller is asking $30 for it, so I was going to check it out today--sounds like the frame my be just my size. Don't know much about Takara's though, and not having a whole lot of luck researching on the web. Any thoughts on this guy? The tires look a little crappy to me based on the picture, but I was thinking maybe i'd clean it up, maybe put on some new tires, perhaps play around with some different handlebar options.. basically just make it into a decent commuter if I can. 'Preciate your feedback and input!

Stem shifters, turkey lever brakes, the cable clamp on the DT appears to need replacing those appear to be alloy wheels and cotterless cranks though and what appears to be generic center pull brakes, the frame is probably hi-ten. That bike is probably worth 30 bucks but that's about it IMO, and keep in midn you'll probably want to repack all the bearings redo the cables, the tires, and possibly the chain.

Still learning
Frame for 5'7" or less. Deal at $30, even if it needs a lube job.

That is a great deal. You could easily spend $30 at dinner and only have heartburn to show for it. So it needs new cables, tires, and a relube. Most vintage bikes I run across need at least that.

I'll clarify too, just pointing out things you may want to take care of on that bike. If I personally spotted it for 30 bucks, I'd probably buy it and I'm way too large for it.

Hey all, thanks for the input. Definitely think I'll be picking it up this afternoon. Excited (but also scared) to replace cables for the first time ever. Should be a good learning experience, I'm hoping.

incazzare.
IMO just about any working bike is worth $30. For a basic ride, I think you're going to be fine. Just don't sink too much cash into it, because you'll never get it back. This would be a good opportunity to learn to service a bike on your own.
