Older Guerciotti - how much should we ask?
 

Hi all

I really hate to be one of those guys who signs up on a forum just to ask a question, but I'm stuck on this one.

My brother-in-law (who isn't a 'computer person') wants me to help him sell his bicycle. It's a Guerciotti that he bought years ago from a friend. He doesn't live close by, so I can't just go look at it...

According to him, it has Shimano 105 brakes and (10 speed) gearset. He told me that it says 'Ambrosio' on it, but I'm guessing that he's talking about the wheels. I would say that the bike is in very good condition - he's a retired aircraft mechanic and is very picky about all things mechanical. The bike is located in Lexington, KY.

A good pic of the tubing decal on the seat tube right under the seat will help very much to evaluate the bike.
From what I can see of the size of the Columbus tubing decal, the fade style paint scheme on the frame and the components on it, I'm guessing that it could be from sometime just maybe just a bit later than the mid 80's. It all comes down to what the frame tubing is, as parts and components could have been changed out through the years.

I am thinking maybe the tubing is CroMor and maybe $200 -250 for the bike if it is clean and ready to ride trouble free for the next year.

As far as I know, no major components have been changed, possibly pedals and cables, but that's probably all.

Has the "Ten Speed Drive Imports" sticker, so the paint is probably decent.

Aelle tubing was a notch or two below Cromor in the columbus. Not bad riding, but about half a pound heavier.

cleaned up and ready to go, maybe $350 tops on ebay.

you might want to check the seatpost, it looks like it's past the minimun insertion point

This looks like a great forum and I'll keep it in my bookmarks. I've been out of the bicycle world for a long time (worked in a small shop 40+ years ago...), but I'd love to start riding again. Living as far out in the country as we do makes that very difficult, but maybe I just need to try harder!

I agree with the $350 max estimates , maybe even a little more on a very good day, as the Guerciotti name is well known enough to really pull in more interest that usual, but that would be for a bike that is in very good, almost new looking condition (zero rust), so clean up the bike as much as possible before you sell it. Touch up any small paint chips if you can and I'd also remove the bike computer/ speedometer hardware and wiring on the bike to make it more presentable to more sellers, as many might not like seeing all that bike computer wiring snaking all over the frame. Just offer it as a bonus on the side for buyers.
Good luck selling the bike! It looks pretty good on the pics and you shouldn't have any problems...

Nice bike value wise I would say $250 or so claened up and well presented. The slightly rough wheel's and ugly black crank may hold price dwon some but not worth chaning. As siad the seat post should be lowered about an 2inch's to the the start of aero fluting.
