going to look at a Guerciotti
hey guys, i'm going to look at a late 70s to mid 80s Guerciotti in a couple days and wanted to ask for some sage advice. the guy who is selling says its has all original components in working order(campy/suntour), serial number 137279, decals are stripped, has some paint fade and chips(its dark red and silver/alum) but no dents or dings, normal wear and tear, needs cleaning and polishing...i was going to take a bunch of pics, but is there anything i should be focusing on when i go check it out.. how much is it worth?
thanks so much for any input

You mentioned "Aluminum" in your description, is it an Aluminum Guerciotti or is is steel? In addition to steel bikes, Guerciotti sold aluminum and CF framed models in the 80's made for them by Alan and they of course have totally different things to watch out for compared to steel Guerciottis.

thanks germany_chris...so if the frame/forks are straight and without ding but components are mixed up and not original. would u guys think it might be worth picking up for 250-300$ and hunting down original parts or make it an everyday ride. (i try not to ride my soma rush all the time here in new orleans, the roads are awful)...thanks again

Look at it like you would any other bike..
The lugs are bonded to the tubes (read glued) so give those a once over. It doesn't look ridden much and the fame isn't particulary stiff or conducive to hammering so I don't imagine there will be any crack but..
I'd pass and ride the Soma that is what they are for, DD duty that's why they're not expensive.
