~87-88 Schwinn High Sierra
Long ago and far away, I spent a lot of great weekend nights enjoying the action at the velodrome in Trexlertown, PA. It lead me to buying a Schwinn High Sierra from TTown bikes just around the corner. I still own the bike and am wondering about it's current value. The bike is in good shape with the exception of needing replacement of a slightly bent rear axle. Current location is Wake Forest, NC.
The frame is 21 1/2 inches, Suntour derailleurs, index shift. Color is a mirrored black finish. If memory serves me correctly, Schwinn called it Black Chrome. Here is a picture:
I appreciate your opinions on the value.

That's a pretty cool bike. It looks to be fillet brazed at the headtube if I'm not mistaken. Generally vintage mountain bikes are unappreciated and don't command the prices road bikes get. In my area, if I saw it for under $200, I'd be tempted.

What is the 4-digit number stamped on the headbadge? That will indicate the day the bike was built.

That number indicates the bike was built on Saturday March 19th, 1988, which would make it an '88 model. You can see the specs. listed here: https://mombat.org/Schwinn_Specs.htm

I'm on the other side of Raleigh from you and have a sold more than few similar mountain bikes here in town. Sadly, you probably won't see much more than $150-175 in the Raleigh area and that's a clean, ready to ride bike with matching tires.

Thanks, billrat. I don't have plans for it yet, but the conversions are also interesting. I already have a rear rack for it.

Top tube looks like it could be a bit long for a drop bar conversion but who knows. Do a little mock up with some bars (or just measure) before you buy all the stuff you'd need to convert it.
I agree with $150-175. As pictured with the mismatched tires and poor saddle setup I'd say $150 max.

Thanks, Jake. Your right about the poor saddle set up. I rode it very briefly and uncomfortably before taking the picture. These are the things that can happen when you loan a bike to an offspring.
