May I ask what you want to do with the bike? Restore to more original spec? Or is it just a rider candidate. As is, it is a pure Frankenbike. Not a problem if you just want to tune it up and ride, use as a beater, winter bike, etc. Your end goal for it will help me calculate an offer.

From the Sheldon site it looks like this was the top bike in the line up?

Looks like the Ofmega crank was stock, surprised me. I'm thinking $200.00 max for the bike as it sits. Good luck.

Thanks. What is the bike worth in original condition to give me an idea of it`s value ?

No deal. He came back with $350. Not a chance. The bike is not much better than my Prelude. Has nice wheels though.

Seller would get more on a part out. Large frame, kills value. 200$ more in line than 350$.

$350 is crazy. There is a beautiful 85 Super Sport in mint condition , full matching 600 EX for $300 that is far nicer than that Raleigh. I need to sell a couple of my bikes to get it. Problem is it`s 10 bellow in Chicago right now. I purchased a few cheep bikes for practice. I learned a lot and got a lot of new tools. I am now comfortable doing all maintenance and repairs on my own bikes. Now I am waiting for spring for them to sell. It`s best that he did not take my offer. My wife will kill me if I bring another bike home. LOL

Steve,
I have a 1986 Raleigh Competition, made in Taiwan, during the Huffy Raleigh days. It is a stiff rider. I paid $150 for it, much better condition than that Prestige, but still needed a full overhaul and I ended up repainting the stays and fork. 600ex group IIRC.

Guy must be tall, look at that seat height. The rear brake bridge appears to be bent to me, and I think there are other things that look pretty rough. 250 is a generous offer.

What year did Huffy take over?

While a British icon is sold to an American company and sources its production in Asia, oy. But British quality or the lack thereof can be argued, for example, LUCAS automotive components and certain oil dropping motorcycles.

There are fans of only British Raleighs and fans of Asian Raleighs, just like there are fans of Chicago Schwinns and fans of Japanese built Schwinns. I'm assuming everyone here loves Waterford built Schwinns, aka Paramounts.

While Raleigh lost it's heritage and idiosyncrasies when acquired, it gained standardized parts/threading, newer production facilities, and probably tighter production tolerances.

My 1986 Competition, pictured as purchased, is a Reynolds 531 main tubes frame with lugs:

Nice looking bike. What is the weight of your bike? The Schwinn Catalog gives so much more details than the Raleigh Catalogs.

Thanks for the compliment. Catalog says 22 lbs.

Considering the Superbe level parts and nice wheelset on the bike if there all good the parts may actually be worth more than the bike is smartly parted out. I could see a little higher than some of the other estimates say $250-300 but that is about it. Yet that is high as one could go if they really liked the bike after checking it out in person. At the end of the day it is a RBCA bike in a large size with one of there less attractive paint jobs. RBCA bikes tend to max out around $300-350. As others have said for a similar level vintage steel bike in the same price range I would prefer a Schwinn or Trek.

The wheels are the nicest part of the bike. Now if it still had the original Superb Pro shifters and RD I would be offering $300.

I sold a very nice 85 Prestige 54cm for just under $500 on Ebay a couple summers ago. It was all original and in fantastic condition. The ride was stiff as hell.
