Bianchi Record from early 70s

I am ashamed to admit I have a Bianchi Record 8-speed that has been collecting dust in my basement for way too many years. I am thinking it was given to me in maybe 1972 and is from a bike shop in Philadelphia. I am the original owner and all that has been replaced on it is a tire tube or two and possibly brake pads. It has campo deraillers. It has not been used since the 70s and it is very dusty - it looks like it has been sitting in a basement. Anyway, we are moving out of the country in the late spring and I need to get rid of it. Any suggestions?

I think you may have miss-counted the number of speeds as 8 speed Record was introduced in the 1990's. Perhaps yours is a 5 or 6 speed.

I don't know much about Bianchi from the time period but I would think it likely has Turismo derailleurs or maybe that much loved Velentino.

It definitely is an 8 speed! I got it no earlier than 1971 and I don't think it was any later than 1973. Not sure about Turismo or Velentino. On the derailler it says "Patent Campagnola". I'll take some pics and post them later. Busy night tonight.

Based on this info it is a true old school 8speed 4 rear 2 front. This means it was most likely a bike originaly sold in Europe in the late 60's and privetaly imported to the US. In order to have a clue on pricing of such a bike we really need to see some good detailed pics

Here are some pics. I wasn't exactly sure what to focus on, so if there I other shots I should post let me know. BTW while I was crawling around taking the pics I did see Valenteno - and it is what Zukahn1 said - 8 speed with 4 rear 2 front. Any and all opinions are welcome as I am trying to figure out what to do with it.

hello krim,

thanks for posting the pictures. ex-works the machine would have been a tenspeed (5X2). either the gear block has been changed or a cog has been removed. looks to be nearly all original save for the shift levers. a base model bike, as indicated especially by the Agrati bulge-formed head. likely a Chiorda build.

Looks like a stock 4 x2 speed Campy Valentino/Regina drivetrain somwhate low end and pretty rare outside of Southern Europe. Considering the rarity and condition of the bike combined with it being somewhat low end I would hazard quess of $275 or so value wise to the right buyer as is.

The color matched frame pump is something of a rarity. Those just didn't survive. Its really a great bike in superb condition. I don't think you would have any problem getting $275 maybe even a little more.

Good point on the matching frame pump I didn't realy notice that figure another $30-40 for the pump which could be sold seprately fairly easy on Ebay for $40-50. Without hurting the total value much.

I believe the model is 'Rekord' possibly a 748. NOT 'Record'

Pretty sure it is a striped down basic Eurpean version of a 1960's record. The Op's photo's show this orignial good paint and Record model emblem in good vintage condition. Both of these would be hard to fake plus who would bother on a bike of this value.

Ya, quite right. There were a number of 'Rekord' models 'tho, 848, 748, 965, 841 S, and likely more. Mostly I think from late seventies/eighties. I had one from 1982, 848 I think, it had all super-record on it and a metal rectangular headbadge. I think the Record models were early as has been noted in the thread.
