1987 Schwinn Super Sport
I unfortunately sold three Tempos last year for between $200 and $250. I really enjoyed riding those bikes along with the Prelude I had before that but my thought was I would like the Super Sport with the 600 components. I just don't think I can swallow $500 for this bike. What do you all think?

It my might be a BF member selling, given the reference to Miami Vice paint job and historical perspective on the period. It looks really clean and nicely rebuilt and at $400 may be FMV, per ebay comps.

I think around $350 maybe $400 in a good market. Ride wise a doubt it will be significantly better than Tempos or Preludes the OP has owned. Most of the the slight premium for this bike is for the cosmetics some people really like the bold paint jobs and the look of the 600 components.

...swell bike, but i couldn't sell it for that here in NorCal. Once you hit the $5-600 range
on the local CL, you start to get into the reeaaaly nice bike categories, like some of the
more aggressively priced Coopers and Italian makers. Also, don't prices go up and down
seasonally where you are ? They do here for sure.
That's about what i'd expect for a price in one of the small shops here that sell used.

I think that $500 is a bit high. I sold that same bike last summer for $350 and thought that that was a fair price. Around here, for $500 you usually get a used road bike with STI .

Hard to say from the posted pics, but if you like the color, it fits you and is in pretty much perfect condition it's worth a little less than the posted price. In my market in the spring it would go for that much or more if totally refurbished and ready to ride.
But...note rear brake cable is too short and routed along wrong side of the top tube. New cable and housing good, not having quite enough to do the job right = bad. So maybe the description should be taken with a grain, if you get my meaning.
Having said that, the ride will be pretty much just like a good Tempo but with 6208 instead of 1050. Both good group sets.

And I always take the "new everything, completely overhauled" ads on CL with a grain of salt.
There is no certificate of mechanical expertise for CL, to my knowledge. And I've seen a lot of work
that has either been done wrong or not done at all despite claims to the contrary. For my own safety
and peace of mind, i usually end up doing it all over again anyway.

I did notice the short cable housing and I am trying to be positive about the rest of the rehab job. I did get some more pics and while it is nice, its not perfect. I will try to post them.
And yes, the market is really soft here in the winter. Its -10 below out now. I didn't sell a single bike before memorial day last year.

+100 price is way too high for that bike, especially now. If I wanted to sell it now I'd ask $200. If I wanted to sell it in the spring maybe $350 but that's pushing it. Rear rim is dented...
Rear brake cable is way off, makes me think "what else did he mess up?" I've never bought a C&V bike that didn't need to be COMPLETELY overhauled, despite any claims of being ready-to-ride or whatever.
Top of the line behind the Paramount and Voyageur? No, someone needs a history lesson. Sellers that put out of their a-- info in C/L always make me question everything else they've written. Pretending you know something when you don't is worse than admitting you know nothing.

^ After Thrifty Bill's summation, I'm glad I only shelled out $50 for my 1987 SS.

A guy in the Chicago area is selling a mint 1985 Super Sport full 600 components for $300 that I am salivating over. He has it listed as an 84. He also has a mint Prologue Sante equipped for $500. He will sell both for $650. You could pay someone here to ship it to you and save $100.

That Prologue has my name all over it!!! If only it were my size I'd consider driving to Chicago for it... I love Sante. Oh well.
The white Super Sport is good too. Talk him down to $250 and you've got a nice bike at a decent price.

Both of those bikes are really nice. I would be driving to Chicago tonight if it was one size bigger. So sad. Thanks to all for your replies.

Been looking for a Prologue in black/gray in my size for some time and that one looks like a nice example.
If anyone wants the Sante' groupset and wheels and is willing to part it out, I'd be interested in buying the frame.
