1997 Trek 730 Multitrack

Looking to purchase a hybrid as a commuter and for the occasional light trails. I saw this bike listed as part of a set (male/female) for $200. If the seller is willing to split the pair, what price for just the mens would constitute a good deal on my end? Thanks in advance!

You should buy the pair and resell the one you don't need for $125-$150, thus netting your bike for $50-$75. Trek Hybrids are popular and command decent values.

I don't like disagreeing with oddjob twice (different thread) but I wouldn't pay more than $150 for the pair. I would buy the pair and resell the one but it seems the people looking for hybrids are convinced they need that stupid%$#$%^& suspension fork. It does however make available some really nice riding bikes. Just for the record I bought almost the identical bike for $25. It needed a little work but no parts.

The very first bike I flipped was a multi track 730. I've sold more than 1/2 a dozen multi tracks since the. Trek hybrids can easily fetch $200 + each tuned and cleaned, whether NJ or Ann Arbor.

Just like digger531, I only paid $25 for my 700 MT, then I put Deore on it and swapped out the black components.

Thanks for the replies! I offered the guy $150 and he said he'd take it. I'm going to check them out and pick them up tonight. Anything other than basic cracks/rust/damage I should inspect for before I buy? Any parts on these bikes known to fail or have trouble? Thanks again.

Congrats. If the bikes have grip shifts rather than thumb shifters, they have been known to fall apart, but it is an easy replacement for $20 or so. Also, just check the wheels for dents or broken spokes.

Thanks again for all the help guys. Just called the guy to make sure it was fine for me to come pick them up and he let me know that he had sold them already. So much for people keeping their words... Better luck next time I guess. I appreciate all the help again guys. I'll be back!

I appreciate the reply. I didn't have a chance in this case because I was at work when I saw the ad but I will definitely take your advice for the further. I learned my lesson with this one. Back to the drawing board, I suppose. Thanks again.

Thrifty Bill is the dean of bike flipping and a whole lot more. He always has great advice. And he's right, guys who hang out here are always searching. I've bought three bikes in the last two weeks.
