I got this Bridgestone MB-3 frame made with Ritchey Logic chrome-moly tubing & Ritchey head set for cheep. I was going to build it up with Shimano Alivo crank, wheels with Shimano Exage hubs, New Horizons steel stem, Shimano cantilever brakes & the rest of the parts to be determined. Serial # on bottom bracket reads "M2BL19984" frame size is 21.6" crank to seat post. The frame is in good shape, dent free, but the paint does have numerous small scratches that don't show in the pics.
Then I checked on Bikepedia to get an idea of how much to sell it for. I was guessing around $100 to $150 but saw that it sold for $890 with a full Shimano Deore DX component set. So here's the questions; what is the frame worth as just a frame (I'd remove the Alivo crank & steel stem but include the fork & Ritchey head set)? Would it be worth a good bit more building it up as I described with parts below Deore DX quality or just sell it as a frame?

I can buy the whole bike for $100 on the craigslist I am currently calling local. I would say that's a deal but I don't think you could get $100 for the frame. $50 maybe.... But then again... It does say Bridgestone...

MB-3's aren't worth that much. Maybe $150 fixed up.

MBs don't fetch much until you get to MB-1 or MB-0. Maybe MB-S too. MB-3 is just another old mountain bike.

Just another old MTB. Maybe $50 for the frame fork and $150-175 nicely built up as a whole bike. Not worth rebuilding unless you plan on keeping it to ride yourself. In most markets you can't hardly give away fairly basic MTB hard frames.

Although the folks here are pretty much correct with the monetary value of this frame, a quality MTB like this can make a great all-rounder bike. Put whatever parts on it you can scrounge, and you may like it to run errands, ride the bike path, or even tour the countryside. Some folks love rigid MTBs as tour bikes. I use one as a townie/winter bike.

So, though it's not worth much money, it's not worthless. It's worth at least 100 huffy frames.

Good point this frame could be built up fairly cheaply into a nice touring commuter bike. A lot of the guys here realy like built up with drop bars and bar end shifters.

Thanks for all the replies. Final update, built it as a 27-speed & sold for $160 on Craigslist add. Here's the ad that describes the bike & pics.

I picked up one for $120, best money I've spent in a long time. Has XT components, thumbshifters and love how it rides. As others have pointed out it's an excellent bike for commuting and touring. Found a Minoura front rack and replacement fork. Love the frame.
