Windsor Professional- 1972
Hello, up for sale is a 1972 windsor professional road bike. I dont know much about the bike but was interested in purchasing. It says it has some original campy record components but I was wondering if the price is fair and just any general information anyone might have on the bike. I also saw it has a decal that says merckx on it and was wondering how they are related. I have a bianchi randonneur for light touring and now am looking for my next lighter weight road bike for speed. Here is the craigslist ad

I don't know what a nice Professional goes for but that seems high to me. At that price point you have your pick of a LOT of nice vintage road bikes. The silver color with is unfortunate IMO because it doesn't show off the chrome lugs.

Thanks for the quick reply! I agree the color of the bike doesnt show off the chrome lugs as nicely as a different color would but I am more interested in the quality of the bike. You did say that at that price range I would have better options and was wondering if you had any recommendations?

If you need to ask for recommendations... you should really do more research first. Are you looking for something "vintage" or do you just want a light, fast, road bike? Because a newer aluminum/carbon road bike is going to be lighter and faster than that (admittedly attractive) Windsor. It will also have indexed shifting, brifters, etc.
There are so many nice modern and vintage bikes/brands out there I can't even start. Pick your preferred country of origin and go from there. Italy, France, England, Japan, US, etc.

one thing to check on these is the interior of the shell. there was a batch that came through from carabela about this time where all the shells were heavily rusted on the inside.

Nice vintage Windsor, but way overpriced IMHO. Could find a nicer lightweight ride for less. As it sits it will need a lot of work. Do you want tubulars? Some love 'em, some don't.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it was raced in the past. The wired spokes were common amongst some racers, found a PX10 that was raced and had that treatment.
I know bikes in your area go for big money but I really would look for something else. Just my $.02.
