how about this one, 80 's Peugeot is it worth 400?

I'm not too familiar with PX10s of that vintage, but it does look like the bike matches what's on pic of the Peugeot brochure attached to the ad.
The PX10 shown is definitley a quality bike, considering the full 531C frameset and some top spec Spidel components visible on the bike, but it's kinda weird seeing the not so high spec Stronglight model 100 crankset, CXC aero pedals and what look like a variant of the Simplex SX610 derailleur on the same bike (which was what you'd expect on a mid level model bike). I would have expected at least a Stronglight 106 or 107 crank, and Spidel pedals and maybe an SLJ6600 rear derailleur on a PX10 from that time. It's also unfortunate that the seller did not have enough pictures posted to better show the condition of the bike (any rust? dents?) If the bike will clean up nicely, 400 bucks sounds very reasonable for this top of the line racer from Peugeot, but I'd only pay that if the bike has intact paint and graphics, no rust or dents and will clean up OK. Certainly make sure look over the bike and test ride the bike really well before you hand any cash over..... |
The crappy indoor photos and dirty bike are a sales deterrent, which means you should have less competition. Go check it out and make an offer you can live with. Good luck!
BTW, although Dr. Chombi has a PhD in French bikes, the cranks and RD do appear to match up with the 1983 USA catalog page specifications. Site Builder |

Site Builder If the bike had the higher spec components I mentioned it would be a bargain at 400 bucks, but with what it has, $400 seems to be just reasonable at best, even if the bike is in good condition.. Dr. Chombi Francaise Peugeot III:rolleyes: |
Well it is a likely a PX not PX-10 Peugeot removed the 10 and droped PX model from second to about 5th in there lineup reducing worthless prestige alot but still basically the same bike bones wise as the PX-10 with what many would consider better components.
All that said $400 seems a bit steep for a somewhat basic vintage road bike, not ready to ride with bad rubber/iffy wheels, no bar tape, likely needs overhaul on bearings, plus me personnelly I probably wouldn't ride that saddle or those pedals. Looking at it this way I see only $225-275 bike and that is only if it's your size and you truly like want it. |
It's filthy, needs an overhaul, probably needs tires, wheels are questionable. It's a nice bike but no way I'd pay $400, and I'd do all the work myself. If you're going to be paying a shop to overhaul it for you forget it.
It may be a PX but it doesn't have the cachet of the 70s PX-10s with the painted lugs, different decals, star crankset, etc. It just looks like a mid-level 80s road bike. Not that there's anything wrong with that though. |
I also saw that on CL. It has Simplex derailers, same ones on my 83 Motobecane, nothing special but they work. It is too small for me, but if it fit I could see offering $250 or so. BTW, I believe this is the same one that was listed months ago with even worse pics. Apparently been trying to sell for awhile.

Forgot to mention that the verbiage in the ad is not correct. Seller says Spidel headset and it clearly says Stronglight. When I see things like that, I really wonder about its provenance, care and feeding, etc.

It's still a very nice bike despite some of the less than impressive components on it, as it has that good full 531 competition grade tubeset. So if the frame will clean up to as new condition, which seems a bit doubtful from what can be see in the bad pics, it would have been an OK buy at 400 bucks, but that will most like be the max value I'd put on it....... |
